Might Pull Trigger Sat on 04 4x4

I had a busy day, almost 2 hours drive to see it, hung out forever, 2 hours drive back, had to rush show my neighbors apartment to 3 different parties, then rush to girlfriends family reunion of sorts.....and with traffic took me 1.5 hours to her house....so Im fried and need to sleep on it....
Carfax shows it was a leased fleet vehicle at first bought at auction by dealer and then sold to current owner....maybe being a leased fleet vehicle would explain why the interior looks like some teenagers threw a party in it....its a lot of wear and tear for 60k miles, and yea there were lots of light stains on seats and floors both front and back which does kinda bother my anal retentive clean interior freak disposition haha....as for paint being faded/scorched from sun I dont care too much but it looks like hell and seems it would need totally repainted which Im sure isnt cheap if I decided to do that....
My girl knows me well....all she said was well for 2 weeks Im been so psyched about this, now Im being indecisive and the interior was kinda trashy as well undercarriage was "well used" to put it lightly and covered in dirt and skids have seen action-not huge dents but plenty of action....she said Im normally hyper and spastic about purchases and dying to jump on what I love, but Im being indecisive about this and hesitant which she says is a red flag in itself....that maybe Im trying to rationalize it because its a good deal and the guy was so freaking cool, but for sure it needs a major detail if not new carpet, and seriously cleaning the undercarriage big time, and dealing with the paint issue.....
Gonna sleep on it....if it was $13k it would ease the pain and be a no brainer, but at $15k part of me is like hmmmmmm a few more grand maybe I find one with same mileage but babied and driven by soccer mom hahah....
I want one though, really do!!

just keep looking bro. It takes time to find the best deal. I almost flew across to the east coast for a 4runner because i wanted one real bad. And I agree that SoCal is a bit more expensive. I eventually found one out in Vegas and flew out there and drove one back. Keep looking around.

Thats the one I looked at...guy is so cool...pics look amazing...but in person the interior is really beat pretty good....undercarriage is not trashed, but is full of dirt and seen plenty of wheeling....paint is trashed on the roof....
He did full services for the 13k miles he owned it and has documents, but carfax shows its a fleet vehicle and maybe thats why it looks like its been driven hard...a leased fleet vehicle Im sure doesnt get babied....Ive had vehicles at 100k miles that still looked and smelled new inside without a hint of wear, even using them for hunting and trail riding....this interior was dogged out pretty good....
So yea Im tempted its low miles...but not sure how harsh some of them have been judging by undercarriage and interior...

if its that beat, i would think of skipping it then. there were literally tons of times when I almost pulled the trigger, but just waited till it felt completely right. Just keep looking bro. Extend your search a few hundred miles.
check autotrader, craigslist, and cars.com. I found mine on cars.com at a Nissan dealership in Vegas. Ran the Vin and had the dealer take numerous pics and send them. Settled on a deal ahead of time if condition remained as presented by them and then flew out there and drove it back. Just keep looking if your second guessing yourself.

Back to drawing board...gonna send him nice email tomorrow and say with the interior condition and paint ruined, it could cost a few grand to recarpet and fix paint, which I dont have...will keep seearching....maybe I need to do a more expensive lower mileage one...

I say pass too. Good call. I am anal about that stuff as well and it will drive you nuts. Be patient, your 4R is out there.

Thanks guys....yea....60k miles at $15k is a STEAL in these parts, plus its already leveled with Rancho Coil Overs....BUT since even my Jeep Rubicon which is my wheeling vehicle has no stains, gets detailed a few times a year, and even if its dirty and dusty from doors off living in a beach town I could detail it and look like new....for some reason when interiors are sh$t canned, carpet and seat stains, and lots of scuffs on the plastics in the interior, it drives me crazy...maybe Im OCD hah....but once my trucks hit 150k and back when I could wheel and hunt all the time, they get to a point they are "beaters" and I dont care and there is a beauty in that...but Im looking at $15k to get myself something I sit in LA traffic to with pleasure, and take the woman and kids to Big Bear and Yosemite in comfort...so, I might be better looking for the soccer mom or grandpa 4Runner that is mint, and Ill just have to level or lift it myself....

Good call on letting that one go..., I had waited for quite a while before I purchased my T4R in June 2010. My sister got a Salsa Red '05 SR5 and it wasn't until I sold my Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited that I got to drive hers...After a weekend of test-driving her car I was set on getting a T4R!
I always thought purchasing from a dealer was a rip-off but Toyota dealerships seem to be pretty fair, esp. with current market conditions...Anyway, I basically went by the lot, met with a sales rep, told him what I was looking for, condition, mileage, model year, Sport Edition 4x4, and gave him a price range...It pretty much took all of the negotiating out of the equation and he'd call from time to time when he saw or heard of one that may come in on trade.
They ended up having a 2005 Sport Edition come in on trade from an older lady who is an attorney in town...(can we say always dealer serviced??)
Anyway, they were looking to get $23,500 for it with 65k miles and I told them that I had found a white one in St. Louis for $18,100 with 10k less miles...turns out it was an SR5 that was mistakenly listed as a Sport...Regardless, the sales rep called back and said he'd sell it to me for exactly what they had in it which was $19,500. The great part for me is that this was my first Toyota experience and honestly, I would pay a little more to purchase from a Toyota dealership again in the future. It's also nice because the rep does all of the searching and has access to what may be on other Toyota lots etc. instead of having to meander around craigslist for hours every night and on the weekends! (that was me...) This may not apply to everyone, but I wanted to share this positive experience with everybody and hey..it could be another option to finding the T4R the Big Man may have waiting for you!
PS- I recently moved to Huntington Beach and drove my 4Runner all the way from Mid-Missouri to So. Cal. in late February of this year...took it through all kinds of weather...definitely looking forward to taking it to the mountains this winter! Good luck!!

Clifton, thanks for that. I do believe the Big Man for real will work out what is meant to be. Im on the east coast visiting my parents for weekend, and still looking at Craigslist and Autotrader, Im finding some NICE 04-05 Limited and Sports with V8 and 4x4 for anywhere in the $16,500-$20k range private party with 60-70k miles. There are plenty more at much higher prices. I did see one 06 from a dealer, sport model I think, 4x4 but only the V6 that Id dont really want...and before I found the details on it I called and despite being late a guy answered...and Ive emailed him a few times today...told him hey I want the V8, and you guys are so far above private party sales its not funny...if you want to make a deal get me in the private party range and Ill work with you...so its an 06 V6 4x4 model with 65k miles, listed at like $22k...told him that was a joke....he said if I can prove similar models are cheaper in area he will go to sales manager and work it for me...well I sent him some links of the cheaper ones that look like bigger engine and more options...said he will work out numbers for me tomorrow.....Im possibly tempted if he gets close for a few reasons, financing it through dealer is faster than me using Bank of America private party loans. As well right now if its Toyota certified its only 2.9% APR, nice! And since its certified engine and tranny are covered until 150k miles! So, im hoping that ones calls as an option and Ill gladly buy from dealer!

That sounds pretty positive...It's good to not rule out any options! Honestly, unless you REALLY are pulling/towing quite a bit you may not need the V8. The 4Runners have the same frame/engine and towing/hauling capacities as the Tacomas. I've pulled a 16' aluminum bass boat out to the river before and barely knew it was back there. The V6 impressed me that's for sure. Plus the added benefits of better fuel economy etc.
As far as the ride for to the moutains, just let me know!

No Im just a power snob. the Rubicon has no guts to me haha, its got 4.11s and 33s and is geared right. The only thing Ive ever driven is GM 350s with stick shift in K5s or K10s, with exhausts and TBI, right gears and 33s-they all had guts. Then Ive had newer 350s with chips, exhausts, intakes, and 4 speed autos...and then the newer 5.3L with a 5 speed stick...and the Silverado I bought my dad and fixed up has a 5.3, exhaust, and was programmed by Justin Bear I think is the name, freaking made that thing come even more alive with 20mpg still! And my only SUV ever was a WJ 4.7 High Output with some gonads.....so now that Im just down to a lifted TJ with 4.0, I am missing power.
Ill never tow, maybe tow the TJ back east somewhere in two years if I get into the PhDs I want (Colorado, Missouri, or West Virginia). But no I just want it for commuting nad mountain trips. if the V6 has pep, and I probably would never do more than 2" lift and mild tire size upgrade, if it can handle that nearly as good as V8 I can deal with it. So if the dealer comes down to a good price, with 2.9%, and a warranty, Ill be all over it.
Yea is there a regional link or topic thread on this forum? We should try to get some of the SoCal folks together from time to time. Wheeling and or camping, and if anyone has families Id be up for trying to get the kids out too for family trips....my girlfriend is an OC girl, but I need to get her out camping and suck it up. If she marries me, she knows darn well Im not staying in Cali. Its been great, and I have at least 2 more years, but I miss hunting, shooting, being more a country boy with a better cost of living. Heck my buddies make a third of what I do, and they own homes, with a boat, campers, big ol yards, ATVs, etc...living the good life, and Im living week to week in SoCa! hahah
Cross my fingers the dealer works with me!! I threw out Im a vet and retired cop, and back east some dealers will show you the invoice and give it to you $500 of what they have into it! See if they can pony up like that!

No dice on dealer, came down from $22k to $20,500....thats no deal on a 06 4Runner Sport V6 with 67k miles to me....there are a few on Cl for $16,200, and V8 $17500....Ill keep looking
