Whats up T4R.org, been utilizing this site for just about everything I’ve done to my truck and wanted to contribute my (progressing) build thread.

Being a car guy my entire life, having several low cars that don’t allow for any off road driving whatsoever, my girl and I decided we wanted to jump into something we could explore with a bit, have room for our dog, and anything else we want to load up. I’ve been eyeing 4Runners for years, and finally found an ultra-clean 2014 4Runner Trail with 30k miles in August of 2017.


The first few weeks we bought it, very stock, with my dog Debo and my buddies FJ at the beach:

First things first, we had to get it up higher, and get some quality rubber installed. I had been researching my options even before I bought the truck, and decided on the Toytec Boss suspension setup, and Nitto Trail Grapplers M/T in 285/70/17.

Very happy with the fit and finish of the Toytec's, cranked up the front coilers about 3/4" upon install:

Next up was a solid dog cage/divider for the cargo area. We have a 90lb pitbull named Debo, the little flimsy dividers were not going to cut it. This setup by “Precision” was the most solid example I could get my hands on. So far so good!

Had to run through all the lighting, its really a functional mod and of course looks great too. Better lighting: see more inside and out.

DDM LED Fog Lights. These are incredibly bright, Once installed I really tossed the idea of a light bar behind the grill out the window.

Got the truck out in the dirt a bunch, learned its pretty much unstoppable even in 4hi with the Trail Grappler M/T.

Did you have to do a body mount chop after getting the 17x9 F5’s? I’m asking because I just ordered the same wheels from SCS. And I also plan on getting the same exact Trail grapplers. I do have a 3 inch icon lift as well. Your trucks looks great btw.

Did you have to do a body mount chop after getting the 17x9 F5’s? I’m asking because I just ordered the same wheels from SCS. And I also plan on getting the same exact Trail grapplers. I do have a 3 inch icon lift as well. Your trucks looks great btw.

No body mount chop as of yet, had to trim the front bumper, did front fender liner mod (pull the liner forward about 1.5"), and trimmed the protruding plastic area on the mud flaps. I really don't want to lose the mud flaps, they serve a purpose and flow well with the truck. I already destroyed a pair, but since the mudflap trim they have been somewhat holding up.

You'll love the tires and the wheel setup! FYI I'm running Spidertrax 1.25" spacers.

How's the noise on those tires?

Its a mild hum, nothing crazy. Can definitely hear them with the windows down, but windows up can barley register the hum.

Good call, yes I did. I totally forgot to add that i installed Spidertrax 1.25" spacers when I had the stock wheels and Nitto's installed. When it came time to mount the SCS, I wanted to see how they looked with the spacers, and I actually really liked the look, so I kept them on.

Key to spacers, USE THREADLOCKER. And check for tightness several times after install. I would not use them for HEAVY off road use, Would take them off and run no spacers for sure in that situation.

Thank you!, yes the rear is maybe 1/4" lower than the front, very little, But I like that look, cranked up the front coils a bit to get it to sit that way. Not going for a crazy pre-runner look, just a little mini reverse rake.

Thank you, really. And yea I agree, the F5's have that rugged steel look but are still refined and have that super deep lip that i love. and the no center cap design is great, love that.
