Mileage & range question

I filled up yesterday, have driven 36.5 miles so far (all city) and am at 3/4 tank already. My truck is a 2wd V6 automatic. Does this sound about right? Just seems like I should get a lot more mileage before I hit that first line.

It's pretty much impossible to gauge by the fuel gauge alone (different fueling stations click off at different levels, etc). Case in point, my Civic will go almost 110 miles before the digital fuel readout even budges below "FULL" However at 260 miles I am usually out of gas by then.
 
My gas gauge and all my other yotas (02 tundra,88runner,87runner,84pickup,98runner) all would read fast from full to about half tank. I would fill up in the morning on the way to work and by the time I got home that evening it would be at half tank. But that half tank would last me the rest of the week before filling up again.

i find that my gauge is just a guideline, not something to be taken serious. it usually lies 60% of the time 100% of the time.. go figure! :driving:
 
To many variables for me as I drive spirited because I love my runner so much. Howevery best city driving tank was probably around 260. My best highway was about 315. Right now it looks like I'm going to be hitting 220 for this tank.
 
Are tanks are 18.5 gallons. I wanna say there was a known issue for the low level light coming on early and sounds like both of yours come on really early.
Actually doing the math sounds like mine come on a little early also. 18.5-15=3.5 unused gallons
And I know 1 gallon will never be used as our pumps dont suck from the bottom of the tank, so maybe we have 2.5 gallon reserve to drive on?

two gallons so you have 16 to 16.5 usable. Theres a baffle in the tank that traps a bit more than 2 gallons so that the pick up doesnt suck dry when the trucks on a angle. The only way youre going to get a accurate reading is by using a electronic gauge like the ultragauge. Honestly my ultragauge has saved my ass a few more times then id like to mention..
 
In summertime, I usually get 45 -50 miles before I hit 3/4 full on the gauge (can be less in winter) but that is very dependent on where the pump shuts off. I usually get about 245 miles before light comes on and it takes about 13 - 13.5 gallons to fill up. Average 18-19 mpg in summer, 16.5-18 mpg in winter. You can check out Fuelly - Track and Compare your MPG for objective mpg data. And yes, lots of gas in the tank when the light comes on.

seems pretty much right to me, and I have a lot of extra weight put on!

So what you guys are saying is when the empty light comes on were not actually empty we still have 2 gallons left? (even though thats only around 26 miles lol):car:
