miles per gallon.

I just wanna let everyone know that I still have the wimpy 225/75R15 tires on mine that are the stock size.

I'd really like to upgrade to like 255/75 and get some nice 16" wheels but i dont want my gas mileage to go down. lol So i'm stuck with these lil guys till i can think of what to do.
 
Interestingly I can't see a physical difference between 20, 29 and 35 psi on my Toyo's. You can feel the difference in ride though. At 20 psi everything feels mushy and when you go over bumps you tend to get the jiggles like your suspension is made from Jello. At 29 psi you no longer get the jiggles. Handling and steering response at 29 psi feels really good. Ride quality is firm but not jarring.

Today I tried 35 psi and I am not sure I am sold on it. Steering response is very light and it seems like overall grip is not as good. Ride quality is very firm and jarring. Also the tires seem a lot noisier. If I had to guess 35psi is to high. It feels and handles best at 29psi and its what Toyota says they should be at. I know manufactures tend to side with ride quality when setting figures but 29psi felt just right. I have not aired them back down yet. I might try to decrease one pound until I get most of the feel back. Going a few pounds over often yields better tire life so maybe I will get lucky at 32psi.
 
My MPG is starting to rise now a bit, seeing as it's been at 14.3 mpg for a while. My only differences...

10w30 castrol GTX full synthetic oil change

new ngk plugs

and also tightened my throttle cable (I think this has the most to do with it, I really stay off the gas a lot more than before.)
 
Well, no surprise, all of my tires were well below spec. Two tires were at 20 psi! The others were 23 and 24 psi. So much for the dealer having "everything" ready at delivery. Schmucks.

Needless to say, they're all pumped up now. I went with 34 psi all around, since we still have a lot of snow-covered roads in the area.
 
I have just read this thread. My mileage may be a bit different since I am only 2WD. The 2WD has a lower rear end (3.7 as opposed to 3.9 in the 4WD). At about 2,000 RPM, I am going about 67 MPH.

I did manage to get 400 miles once a tank once, well 399.6. It did take 17.5 gallons, which meant it was pretty dry. It was coming back from Florida on I-75.

After my first set of tires, I got Michelin Cross Terrians and then I got Michelin LTX. I have noticed a slight drop in mileage with the LTX's. I put 34 psi in LTX's and the tire dealer said that is OK. I also put 34 psi in the Cross Terrians in the 04.

I usually get 16 to 19 around town and in the low 20's (20 - 22.5) on the highway. I am probably am unsual in that I write the mileage down in a book. After about 50,000 miles I averaged 19.4 MPG, but after 109,000 I found it is 18.3. I now tow a trailer, which brings it down to 16 on the highway, the new LTX's may be a little worse for mileage and my 17 year old son driving it sometimes probably deosn't help mileage. Still, I am pleased with the mileage, especially considering what the car does for our family.

I would hope 34 would be ok for the LTX, I just filled mine to 33 the other day.

2,000 RPM and 67 MPH is pretty good. I think 2,000 for 4WD would be 63ish maybe?
 
ah ha! this wont be the case soon when i get my AT's but i recently got 290+ miles till the light came on, and the tank took 16 gallons. thats on 85 octane with some mountain driving some stop and go, and some highway. i think my guage goes down faster when its more empty. but ya i guess thats pretty average?? oh and im not goin slow by any means! winter gas blows!!

Acorrding to Motor Trend, it is 60.8 MPH on the 4WD @ 2,000 RPM, unless you have the higher 4.1 rear end.

It is amazing how much totally useless information I have. :biggrin2:

Well, I don't have high hopes for this tank of gas doing any better than 14mpg. Right now I'm showing 147 miles on the trip meter, and the fuel gauge is well below half...about halfway between 1/2 and 1/4 tank. I know the gauge isn't really accurate...but I highly doubt I'm going to get anywhere near 250 miles on this tank.

And I drive like a total grandma...lots of coasting, easy acceleration, nothing over 65mph, I don't let it sit and warm up for minutes, etc.

Even my 2000 Dakota V6 did 3 or 4mpg better than this in the winter. Something isn't right.

Plugged cat? Bad MAF? Leaky gas tank? :)
 
ya that sucks for gas milage, the winter gas is always pretty crappy cause the cold weather. they lower the chemical something rather to decrease air polution. Smog is more apt to stay in the cold wheather. I had a civivc that got 440 miles to a tank and when i moved to utah in the winter i was trying to figure out why i was only getting like 370-80 miles. dern cold weather!! (and elevation too) anyway so here is a solution. i dont know if its been said or if you tried this or not but go to Auto Zone and they have this fuel injector stuff that they swear by. its in a clear white plastic bottle useually right on their front counter. put some of that in your tank and see if someting happens. i useually put injector cleaner in every 6 to 8 months but give it try. but other than that it could be a Cat, have you checked your plugs? and make sure your air filter is clean. i think you metioned that you checked that already. but ya god luck! oh one more thing correct me if im wrong but is your fuel pump making any noise while your car is idleing? it will be a little hum if its bad. that may be the problem??

Filled up again tonight. Putting the proper amount of air in the tires made a considerable difference. This time I got 18.43 mpg. Last tank was 16.79. I did not have to use 4WD on the last tank but I did get a little unlucky with the traffic lights this time around. Its also been very cold with much longer warm ups. I am not expecting to get much better this season but I bet I can squeeze another mile per gallon or so when it warms up.
 
I fill up pretty much every monday and i drive about 200 miles a week and last monday I got 19.1 mpg and this monday I got 19.2 mpg and thats driving roughly 20-30 miles on the freeway, the rest is all city.
 
13.5MPG

4wd V6 with the mileage breaking mods listed below, I get a consistant 13.5 granny driving, This is city only, no highway.

I went from 17-18 mpg with worn-down 265/70's down to 13-14 pmg when I put on the AT's. and the ladder rack. I doubt the rack took more than 1 or 1.5 from the drag/weight. I only lost a .5 mpg from the lift/winch/bumper.

I also fill up on monday, drive the city all day with about 20 engine starts/day, and make it only about 180 miles on a fill up of around 14 gal

I am not satified with 13.5, it needs to be better than that.

ah crap, i just put AT's on mine too. i hope that wont drop it that much. thanks alot for the let down! haha im not really mad lol
 
Why is it that V8 guys are getting better fuel efficiency? My brother's V8 Silverado does 17/20 all the time.

I just filled up again and I'm "up to" 16.42 mpg. Granny driving, no long warm-ups, tires at 34, nothing over 60mph.

This is about what I got in cold weather (sub 10F) in my Dodge Dakota V6, so I'm not terribly upset. I suspect I'll be able to get at least 20mpg highway in the warmer weather. God I hope so!

The good thing for me is, I don't drive this thing every day. Some weekdays and some weekends...probably 10 days out of the month.
