military 4runners

Anyone ever seen one? Been debating getting a m1009 for my son but I don't want the hassle... So my next thought was an olive drab 3rd gen. Anyone seen one painted like this? What about camo vinyl wrap? I'm thinking a lifted olive drab runner with extra lighting and a cb would be really cool.

I'm not saying they are not out there but after 11 years in the Marines and 4 years Contracting in Iraq working security, I have never seen a 4Runner. Now I have seen allot of LC's but not a T4R. I would like to see a pic if you know of one.

Blue :becky:

There are countless 4Runners and Hilux Surf's over here in Afghanistan. Mostly the ALP driving them, so not any painted fancy, just full of average Joe's toting AK's... There is a camo'd out GX470 (Prado) that I see pass us on occassion. Pretty neat.

Here is one I found over at YotaTech. The guy got rear ended not long after painting it and it was totalled.

Maybe if it was all decked out with bumpers, lights, etc etc it would look good but ehhh, kinda iffy to me.

I see...

I have seen countless Prado's and LC but I just have not seen the T4R. Looks SWEET!!!! I dig it!

Thanks

Cool pic, thanks!

See this one is not from Afghanistan- It is not all gingled out with shit hanging off the side of it, LOL!!!!!!!

That army green 4runner wouldn't be so bad if someone painted all the chrome satin black.

About OP's request ... The US military does not drive 4Runners. So yes you could have a militaristic green 4Runner but to me it won't look like a military vehicle, more like a mercenary vehicle.

that one is pretty cool but it REAAAAALLY needs black wheels, a new front bumper, winch and CB antenna to look 'proper'

anyway, this is just a fun idea for my 15yo with a 'tinkertoy' truck i know he'll be happy driving

just get a stock white 3rd gen and have him work to get it that way, best way to do it in my opinion. learn the truck and have pride in the work you/him do :) :trophy:

totally agree!! thats the point..he and i can do this together. i was just wanting everyone's feedback on that color choice for a 4runner.

i mean if you want to paint it, white is the easiest to paint over obviously. And there are a lot of white runners out there too! The 5-speed tranny isn't easy to come by though :/ since they stopped making them in the 2000-2002 models and never in the limited :( but if you want an auto they are everywhere and you can find a really good one for a decent price then let the modding begin! There's plenty of forums here to help with any wild idea you may have too!

This is no help to the OP, but I thought this story was funny and somewhat related:

So I park and get out of my truck in a Walmart parking lot of all places. Some older guy comes up to me and asks what that "arm thing" is on my front right fender.

I tell him it is a snorkel.

He says "You mean for driving under water?"

I answer "Yes"

Then he asks me if my truck is a military vehicle.

I told him "no"

He asks if the truck came with the snorkel?

I told him I built the snorkel myself.

He replies "Very impressive!"

I just thought that it was weird that he asked if it was a military vehicle, because I never thought it looked like one. Plus I've never seen a 4Runner in the military.
