Mineral Basin trip report

Met with some friends Saturday evening and drove Mineral Basin trail in American Fork Canyon. 4 Jeeps ranging from a stocker with LSD and 31s to a JK with an atlas and 35s on D60s, and three Yotas including my 4runner and two Tacos, a stock TRD on 33s and the other one tubbed on 35s with a dual case and elocker. It had just rained and the trail was just messy enough to make it slippery. The trail itself was mostly dirt road and rock gardens, with a couple ledge climbs to make it interesting. No carnage, but I did have to deal with a pinch flat and there were two assisted recoveries when one of the Jeeps got stuck in the middle of a climb and the other got hung up on a rear shock mount on the way down in the dark.







I'll have more video later, I'm still editing the dash cam footage.

I don't know what mods the red Rubicon had, but he sure made us all look silly a couple times. The white one had the 60s, and she showed us up too - maybe that's not a JK, is that a TJ? I never remember which is which.

It was good, not like Moab or the west desert trails at all. I had to back off a couple of lines and bypass one obstacle completely because it was too slick, I really want to go back when it's dry and take those harder lines.

I hear ya'--nothing like a little moisture to totally screw up a crawling line, or to deny you altogether on some obstacles. The only answer sometimes is to use more momentum and power, and that's when things go "boom"!

You can build a dana 60 with 5 on 5.5 lugs but not 5 on 4.5 The lug pattern is too small to fit around the bearings let alone the actual hub casing(full floater). The rear you might get away with on a semi floater with custom drilled axles. More than likely it had 44's in it. Maybe a 60 rear, 44 front.

Nice! I haven't been on Mineral Basin yet but videos and pictures have made it look fun. Only trail i've done up there is forest lake.
