Misfire cylinder 4...

Code came up a few weeks ago. Here's what I've done.

1) Move coils around. Misfire not resolved.

2) Installed new plugs. Misfire not resolved.

3) At the dealer today head is coming off.

At the moment frustrated, we'll see what happens.

Definitely interested in hearing what they say. What's the service history on the vehicle? All the regular maintenance done? Ever had any big problems?

Edit: Wait, they're already taking the head off? Did they even do a compression test?

Bought it new, maintenance has been constant. First real issue ever. I believe they mentioned a comp test was forthcoming.

Also, did they check for hydrocarbons in the coolant? Or were you losing any coolant?

No coolant loss. It's in their hands now...

Im guessing a bad injector.

Somehow I think we're past that. Everything I read here about the rough idle for 10-15 seconds then clearing up all points to the HG. Wish I was wrong but I don't think so.

Just noticed you have more miles on your '04 than I do on my '95 and '00 lol... Best of luck man, Not gonna be cheap :(

They're meant to be driven!!!

If anyone wants to donate to ease the pain on my wallet I'll gladly give you my PP addy!! ;):

Still at the dealer. Stopped by yesterday and they admitted that they are short on techs and they have not opened it up yet. Nothing will happen til Monday at the earliest.

I ended up with a 2012 Camry for as long as I need it at n/c.

Well the sucks!

But hey.... At least you driving their Camry is better than putting the wear and tear on your 4R... Is the Camry at least the V6?

Update: Dealer just called. Ran a compression test and they see no issue based on the test. They have had the truck for 2 weeks and it has not acted up once...

I'll pick it up this morning and we'll see what happens. Fingers crossed...

On a side note the 2012 Camry they gave me got 38.4 & 39.5 mpg on a trip this week.:jaw drop:

The plot thickens, eh? I'm really curious to find out what was causing the rough idle and the codes, but if they say it's not the head gasket that's a good start.

Picked up the 4R this morning. First thing I noticed after having it almost 2 weeks they couldn't run it through the car wash, oh well...

Met with the Service Adviser as he had the work order for the truck. I immediately noticed they ran the compression test but there were no #'s recorded on my bill. I mentioned those would be nice for me to have should there be any issues in the future. Said he would email them.

Porter pulled up my truck I went to get in and I immediately noticed the floor mat was covered in grease/oil. A big deal to me as this spring I treated myself and bought a new set to replace the 8 year old ones. Grabbed the SA and he took the truck in the back. Few minutes later he came back and mats still looked like $hit. I barked and he stood there like a totem pole... As I went to pull away I noticed the "VSC" lights were still on. I grabbed the SA again and away the truck went for a second time.

When he returned I continued to complain about the mats...

Got home and decided to clean up the 4R from its 2 week stint at the dealer. Pulled the mats out to vac and immediately noticed they had cut my gas pedal!!! This was after I specifically asked the SA NOT to and signed a release! OK, blood pressure in now boiling and I'm on the phone to the Service Manager.

Explain all the above, the SM apologizes and agrees to order new mats and a new gas pedal.

Somewhat calmer I go back to cleaning the 4R. I notice on the passenger seat a big grease mark. Whoever drove the truck leaned over and left a big stain on the side bolster of the seat base. ARGH! I finish washing the truck and as is my custom I dump the leftover wash water on the engine and hose it down. It's then I notice both of the nuts to hold the engine cover down are gone. Are you freaking kidding me!!!

So how's your day been...

WOW, what a joke. I hate bad customer service more than anything in the world. I'll pay extra for better customer service. That sucks man.

Not as bad as yours my man!
Damn that is some messed up stuff there! I guess that's why even when I have no Idea what I am doing I still prefer to do it myself....at-least I know whats been done and sometimes after a story like this a decision like (take it to the dealer) really has substance.

Seems like you didn't have a choice this time as you tried to DIY. I hope it all works out! Find a new dealer!

I too had an "interior oil" issue after a new Tranny was put in my 89Toy. Not much can be done...replace carpet or seats...good luck!:rockthrow:
