yup it's serious it will be a slow build though since I got the little man on the way in late Feb. A guy in the club I wheel with just did a similar axle swap into his jeep jk and the affordability and the sheer size and strength of these axles made it to good to pass up. I know its probably way past overkill :ak472: but I hate breaking stuff and love the fact I can get repair or replacement parts at any dealer or autoparts store.

Was wondering where you sent your inquiry to Bilstein as mine have blown as well with less than 12k miles on them and limited off roading if any

mine was done through 4wheelparts since that is who I bought them through I had just taken them back to them and they sent them back to Bilstein to warranty approval

Just a warning to all this will probably be a painfully slow evolution but I want to make sure I don't cut corners so pretty much a one piece at a time then once I have everything together the real fun with cutting and welding will begin.

So went and picked up some new parts for the 4runner over the holiday weekend.
06 SuperDuty Dana 60 front and Sterling 10.5 rear.
Now to start the slow collection and build-up of the parts to take the old girl to the next level

So what idea's do you have for setting these up under your truck? 4-link? Leaves? Something else?

3 link front and rear with coil overs is the current plan.

dream parts list for this would be:

-detroit rear, 5.38s
-ARB front, 5.38s
-Full Hydro Steering
-3link front and rear with remote resi coilovers
-Artec axle truss front, and rear
-39"-40" tires on beadlock 17" rims
-Lefty or the new Trailgear driver drop tcase 4.7 gears
-drilled slotted rotors and stock brake calipers
-haven't decided on drive flange or just factory locking hubs
-air bumps

want to keep it some what simple

So this would be a trail rig only then? I don't think you can use full hydro steering on the street. Would be some serious gearing with that combo, perfect for big tires and slow crawls over everything!

goal is that it would be able to be street driven if I really wanted to but would mostly be a trailer queen. There are a handful of places to go and play local to me that I would still like to be able to drive to here and there.

The idea of full hydro steering on the street is something I am still coming around to but with all the rigs in ultra4 and some of the desert guys running Hydro I think it can be done. Just a lot of research to try and make the right decisions.

Not much of a build update considering having a kid and other projects have consumed my time as of lately. But I ended up selling the SD axles to a buddy and now still debating other ideas.

Took her wheeling over the weekend though. shocked the crap out of everyone when my nearly stock IFS 4Runner kept up with and in some spots out wheeled built jeeps and other toyotas.

Other photos and possibly videos may trickle in as I get them sorted out.

How does it handle on the trail, and looks fun.

It handles pretty good I'm not always the easiest on equipment when it comes to wheeling so it gets a beating. Biggest thing I want is bigger tires and a locker might help. But before this I practically had a buggy so Ya always wanting more

We moved out of California and now are living in the Greensboro North Carolina area.

Unfortunately I had to sell the axles I had lined up for the 4runner the weight of them alone would have murdered our moving budget.

So any of you 4th gen guys live in North Carolina? hoping to try and make some new friends and or at least me some people and explore some trails.

So what brought to the Tar Heel state? I am in NC about 1-2 hours south of you at Fort Bragg, thou I am due to move myself in July, unless I get one of the 2 jobs I applied for up in Greensboro. There others and they gather frequently. There is a FaceBook page for them. I'll have t find it again.
