Missing the Navi SD card

Hello,

I have a new to me 2016 Trail Ed. I purchased it used recently and it didn't come with a Navi SD card. The Radio, XM radio and Bluetooth all works fine just not the navigation. I noticed some SD cards on Amazon, are these legit? the Dealer wants a lot of money for one and even more to install it. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

I purchased an SD card from Amazon to update my 2017 Limited. The whole system started randomly rebooting for no apparent reason. Bought a SD card from a dealer over the internet and everything went back to normal. YMMV.

By the way, my local dealer wouldn't sell me a card without charging me a half hour of labor to install it. All you have to do is pop out the old card, install the new one, and wait a few minutes for the system to update.

That's kinda BS on the dealer labor and I work for a dealer! We dont charge anything and there should be zero charge for something that literally anyone can do!
This is the crap that p*sses me off, there is no reason to charge any labor at all.
I think the updated cards are about $170 if memory serves me correctly.

I have one from I think 2018 and later replaced it with the a 2020. You can have the old one if you want, however i'll check here in a few and will link you to an ebay dealer who sells legit (I think?) ones. I got mine same day shipped from them but they are like 30 minutes away, I'm guessing you'd get it in about a day or two :reddance:

Edit: Mine was from navkings on ebay, shipped from I think Gilbert, AZ which is Phoenix. I'm pretty sure they are legit toyota cards. I did find the most recent serial and match it up with their listings to make sure before I bought it. Not sure if you need to do that or if a newer one than 2020 came out.

Mine is 86271 0e072 and it's $35 shipped right now

I have an ‘18 SR5 I bought used in ‘19. I also did not have the card. Dealer wanted $150. I bought one from an Arizona Toyota dealer for $60 on eBay. Got it a few days later. Installed it while at the post office with sweaty palms and holding my breath, hoping for the best and expecting the worst. No need to worry. It popped right in and upon putting power to the system I got a map with my current location and the indicator in the gauge cluster started showing my true direction.

You can buy used genuine OEM SD cards on Ebay. They will have old map data in them, but the latest Toyota radios allow you to update the map data using your cell phone and Bluetooth connection.

you have to use a NEW card

862710E073 - Toyota Micro sd card. Nis, entune, woofer | Lewis Toyota, Topeka KS

This is the latest SD card. DO NOT PURCHASE A USED CARD.

After 63 miles of driving, your VIN number is written to the card and it cannot be used in any other vehicle.

I found that out the hard way, I purchased a card of Ebay for $45, stuck it in, and then 4 days later it went blank. Not worth it.

Bought this one for my wife's RAV. Open up the door, remove the old card, insert the new one, start engine and follow the directions. It had 11 updates and took about 20 minutes. You need to leave your engine running during the updates, so make sure you are in the driveway.

A used SD card from Amazon worked

Hello,

I decided to risk buying a SD card from Amazon for $34 bucks and it works fine. Even adding a destination and routing. I'll be trying it more in the coming days.
It has Toyota silkscreen in white lettering but it's obviously used since it had a Home address stored which I deleted. So not a bad deal. The ASIN # is B086GRMNQPR. The description says release data 10/2019 - 2020 but I have not verified that yet, don't really care.

I purchased this vehicle from a used lot and apparently the previous owner removed the SD card. Hopefully this will help others in a similar situation.

The previous home address and way points are stored in the NAV head unit and not on the sd card. You probably have a new card from wherever you got it.

Could somebody share an archive with 862710E073 map data? I'd like to try to make a backup copy and update my 2019 HU.

IIRC, this has been tried previously and discussed on the forums.
Copies didn’t work.
Can’t remember if Toyota has an image in the sd card or it was encrypted in some form.

I've been missing the nav SD card since I got my 4Runner used in 2019. I didn't want to spend the $170 on a new one from the dealer so I've been using Waze most of the time through my phone.

I think I'll try out one of these eBay ones. Thanks for the links!

I have analyzed backup copy of my 2019 SD card and figured that the image is locked to the SD card CID. There is a way to to make it work, but I need to do more testing on a new map data.

Also the /PANA directory on the SD card contains HUD updates and I'm not sure if they are protected. I think they could be copied to the USB drive to perform the update.

My $40 ebay nav card stopped working after a while. It did not come from NavKings. Basically the background map stopped loading and was random when it did load. I put the old 2015 original Toyota card in and it's working again. The ebay card looked like a real Toyota one. The navigation is awful even when it does work. I use a Garmin suction cupped to the window. Best navigation decision I made. The ebay nav card got reformatted and is now in my Roku player.

Hi, Andrew. Could you please share you backup file. I have older maps 2016, and I think I can make partially update on my microSD, if I get changes from yours backup.
