so i narrowed down my choices and i think im strongly set on 99 4wd rear coils. i have a 2wd 97 4runner. i asked steve (sonoran steel) and he said these would lift my rear about 3". that would put my rear height with 31s at roughly 37" from fender to ground. while researching forever i've been getting that roughly 36" is the norm running similar size tire. kinda puzzled since steve knows his stuff but reading different results. i would love to see some pics and posted measurements with this setup. i dont offroad its a family vehicle so have 3 kids in there most of the time. so looking for comfortable ride. leaving stock shocks now but later maybe green trekmasters? right now my rear sits at 34" on both sides. could anybody help me clarify.

my 2000 with stock suspension and 31's sat at 35 ground to fender so 36 sounds right

36"nor so sounds about right. I had the tall springs when I bought mine. Don't worry too much, with 3 kids back there it will sit at more like 35. If you have not already, check out the Old Man Emu medium duty springs. I have a friend with them in his 4Runner, and it rides very smoothly and handles well.

ur fender measurement wasnt legit though if I remember right!
there were no flares which actually drop the fender measurement and it looked like you did some trimming...
am I right? or just crazy?

you should be able to use your stock shocks with the upgrade for a little while till you can get new shocks to match the lift, it really depends on the size of the lift a (or height of coils) and how much you need to go off road, if you just stay on road till you can get new shocks you should be good,
i can't remember what happens when you put a lift on with stock shocks and go wheeling, it either over compresses the shocks and blows it out or over pulls the shock and rips the shock arm from the body of the shock, if you can get someone to confirm which one it is you then know what you shouldn't be doing with the stock shocks ...... i think you just have to worry about axle drop so as long as you have all 4 on the ground you should be fine.....
but get someone to double check that....

the thing is...im 2wd and will never fully offroad. only offroad would be camping dirt trails. dont need e expensive stuff. would the 906 be too harsh for 3 kids in back. also im only running 31s right now(pretty new tires). i would go 32s when i wear these out. i just dont know. tall 99 coils will put my rear at 35.5" with my 31s. 906s would put me approx at 36.5". as for front i was thinking 1.5 or 2" topmount spacer so it wouldnt preload or change my stock ride up front. and do plan on using my current shocks which are kyb fronts and rancho rears. they were on it when i bought my 4runner. my front is roughly 3/8" higher than my rear currently. ibeen going bak n forth. i cannot decide cause $ is a factor as always.

what about finding some used taco trd coils? and maybe used '99's would work too, find some used ones of those as well or factory replacements.
the thing about the coils are is the just support the heavy load so i don;t know how big your boys are but stock coils should accommodate 3 kids no problem as the truck was designed from the factory to seat 5 adults, so figure how much the kids weight and all of your gear then make the decision,
as if you go with a coil to stiff then the kids will be getting thrown around, gotta love these little balancing acts huh?!
i'm not sure what the 906 is off the top of my head, but if its the one for stock replacement you should be fine as long as your not carrying any really heavy gear, i think ome's stock replacements would be a safe bet un less you haul heavy loads.
and since your going pretty darn close to stock i would think the shocks would be ok to stay on there for a month or so til you can afford new shocks, but don't quote me on that till we get someone else in here who can confirm,
as i have done that before and had no problems but then seen others who have done it and broke their shocks...i'd just like to hear some conformation before i tell you to spend money on anything you know...:bluejump:

read the Sonoran FAQ section of 96-02 lifts
the 906 coil is same as the 890 coil but with the inner upside down top hat thingie removed if I recall correctly. Look underneath at your rear coils-up against the body-you will see it ...
I highly recommend just the 890 coils-many many of us are running those coils and happy with them.If you don't really offroad then in my mind keeping the hat thing in there is a good idea-it just helps to keep the springs in their place.
The possibilities are endless-it's okay to be confused. You may have to do this twice to get just the right feel you think you want. Don't stress -get your pieces at a good price and just resell later what you want to get rid of.
Compare TRDPARTS4U.com prices as I found them the best.
Sonoran website answers many of these questions for us. Read and read some more and keep asking questions until you narrow down your selection.
You may end up with some rake-meaning butt end slightly higher than the front. Some hate this-others can not even see it it is so subtle.
You are getting there....you need to understand all years are slightly different heights and again the Sonoran comparison of the various years and their spring heights may help or confuse you further.

nope. i didn't trim the arch at all and i think bottom lip of the fender is the same with or without flares
dont know if the helps because it's on an angle but here ya go...and I have 265/70's. I have no idea why. That's what you get for not reading the forum first and seeing 265/75s will fit.
