Mods to my 03 4Runner

I just got a 2003 Sr5 4WD a few months ago and am trying to get some help on what mods would be the best for it. I want to get a 1-2 in lift and some good off-road/on road tires. These two mods will be my first and I'm not really sure what would be good tires. Ive been looking at Nitto, BFG, and Toyo but there are so many choices and opinions.

I suggest that you go with the Cornfed 3/2 lift. It is still not that high and anything lower doesn't add much. As for tires, I vote for either Michelin's or Nitto's. Great all around tires.

I've read some negative reviews on the Nittos; I think it would also depend on how much on road or off-road driving you plan on doing. I know they won't last long if you mostly drive them on the road.

BFG AT's are a nice look, but expensive. I had them on my 3rd gen. I liked the ride, but was mostly on road so they wore much faster.
I like the Michelin tires, personally. Right now I've got Kumho Ecstas (sp?) but that's what I got the truck with....

Something that has good off road capabilities, yet still wears well on the road and looks good is what you'll be after, I assume....

It may be atypical of the BFG AT’s but I put 70K on my last set of 265/70/17’s. You do pay a little more for them though.

Yeah, I shopped around my area & ended up paying around $200/each, mounted & balanced, for 4 tires. Just over $800, and they always get you with the "tire disposal fee" which is ludicrous if you ask me! :reddance:

I think this may be typical on a vehicle as light as the 4r. I sold my same size BFG ATs with 35K miles and 3/4 (12-13/32nds) tread left.

I have a set of Nitto Terragrapler on a 99 4runner with 40,000 miles on them, still have plenty of tread left.Mostly on road driving.

If you decide to go the BFG route I have a set (5) that I am selling 275/70/R16

Less than 1500 miles on them.

I was just pricing out sone new BFG's and the best price is at BJ's Wholesale Club up here in Massachusetts. The BFG Long Trail T/A's were $179.00 each, the All Terrain T/A's $174.00.

Ive have Long Trails on both my 4runners, and my 2003 has had the same set for over 50,000 and they still have plenty of tread left.

Now if I could just find a used tire to replace the spare...no bone yards have ANYTHING in 265/65/R17.

Finally Finished!

3/2 Cornfed Lift
17" XD Addict
33" Nitto Terra Grapplers

Wow, great lift, rims and tires.

I can't decide if I like that better, or the fact that you have beretta and browning stickers on the back
