Hey momo.75 - I've had my 05 for over 10 years now. I will finally address the lil triangle gap from the 06 headlight upgrade. There are a lot of threads that lead to dead ends so I wanted to ask straight from the source: what did you need to do to get the 06 grille to pair up? I have a hoopless Demello on the way, so I *believe* that eliminates some potential trimming. Did you need to upgrade the hood latch? Love your rig btw, can't think of a cleaner 4th gen.

I appreciate that. Depending on which version of the 4th gen DO bumper you ordered you will have a couple of options. When I ordered mine I ordered it for the 03-05 because i thought there might be some mounting reason I needed to. after I got it and went to switch headlights and grill I realize the difference between that bumper and the 06-09. Because the 06-09 grill is a little taller DO has the back of the bumper trimmed out because the grill goes below the top plate of the bumper.....so when I was working on my first grill I ended up doing a bunch of trimming on the bottom of the grill so it wouldn't hit the bumper. It was kind of a pain but at the time I was already committed to doing it. Not too long after that I bought another grill to make a Satoshi grill. This time instead of trimming the grill I decided to trim the top plate of the bumper. I decided to do this because I knew when I trimmed out the structure of the grill it would be more weak. I was afraid that if I trimmed the bottom as well it would be too weak to support itself. It was a bit of work but it turned out well and I couldn't be happier with the grill. If you do go this route and have a winch in your bumper you will need to cover it so slivers do not get in your line.
I almost forgot, you will need to make a new rod for the secondary release lever. I think I got a piece from Lowes or Home Depot.

it has been a couple months but I finally finished up my Satoshi grill. Instead of trimming the bottom of the 06-09 grill I ended up cutting the back of the top plate on my Demello bumper. I am very pleased with the ay it turned out. Because of the black/black it is a little hard to photograph.

No worries. I'm good now, thanks. I already know I won't be able to put my RTT on the 4Runner and still fit it in the garage. Not without making the garage opening taller. So now I'm considering building a trailer to haul the RTT on multi-day trips. Otherwise, it's ground tent or the back of the 4runner.
Now that’s the insider info I needed. Got the 03-05 variant ordered under the same assumptions. Looks like I’ll be hitting up DO tomorrow. Opted for powder coating also but seeing how yours turned out, I’m inspired to go DIY. Save a couple hundred for other mods :biggrin2:

The story is as old as time itself...Boy meets truck. Boy mods truck and lives happily ever after. 18 years ago this past Saturday we brought home my favorite vehicle I have ever owned. At that time there were no plans for modding.....oops.
Which direction did you end up going? I have a similar sized garage and wondering what your choices were. Does it fit?

I haven't mounted the tent on top of my 4runner. I know that it won't fit thru the opening with the tent on. At least no the tent I have right now which is basically the same as most CVT/Tepui tents. Still thinking about building a trailer for the tent and other gear.
