Morimoto Elite Kit not turning on occasionally.

Hi, I bought a Morimoto Elite kit from TRS around 1 year back. I installed it following their instructions with the HD relay. For a month they were working great. After that slowly one bulb started having intermittent issues where it doesn't turn on occasionally.

In the beginning i used to turn off the lights and turn them on and it used to work but after a few days it went dead completely. I called TRS and following their instructions switched the ballasts relays bulbs and all the wiring but they are all working fine. They sent me a replacement bulb and it worked fine for a few days and the whole cycle repeated. This time i sent the whole kit back to them for them to trouble shoot. They said no issue with the KIT or bulbs and returned back the whole kit with a new bulb and it worked fine for a few days and the same issue came back.

I was in a hurry so removed the HID setup on the side which was not working and put back the factory bulb. Now even the one remaining bulb is having issues to turn on. At this point i lost confidence on their support so reaching out to see if any one is having the same issues.

Edit - Also there is a buzz sound when i turn on the lights when the bulb fails to turn on.

Never had issues with Morimoto kits, have you checked the connections on the relay harness to the battery and grounds? Perhaps something is jiggling loose?

Yes i switched all the wiring and Ballasts lot of times. One thing i observed is its always the drivers side that goes off.

Sounds like a connection or ballast issue.

I did contact them. I even sent the whole kit for inspection. Even after switching the ballast its only the drivers side that starts turning bad until the bulb is dead.

Sounds like it might be an issue with your driver's side stock wire connection, have you tried cleaning the terminals and checking the connections with the stock wiring? Have you tried tapping the passenger side for the relay power instead of drivers side?

I've had problems like that. Sometimes when it's raining outside they'll come on no problem. You have a ground issue. Either file down the location where the ground is or find another spot that makes better contact with the chassis.

I connected it to the battery -ve as mentioned in the instructions. But if the ground is bad shouldn't both lights have the issue?

ok but the stock bulb had no issues. I will clean the connections today and see. Thanks.

I will mention something odd I found about my driver side OEM wiring. I had an issue where the driver side HID bulb would not work. I switched bulbs and ballasts and everything worked on passenger side but nothing worked on driver side. I brought out the multimeter and found that the OEM wiring at the bulb connector was reversed where my red wire is ground and black wire is positive. With a normal halogen bulb the polarity doesn’t matter as bulb will work either way. But when the OEM wiring is powering the ballast it wouldn’t work.

I ended up switching wires in the HID kit wiring to get the polarity correct to power the ballast and everything works. Like I side I doubt this is your issue but wanted to pass it on.
