motion sickness, suspension upgrade

When I first drove a 4Runner (without KDSS) I said no way in hell I would drive this. I get very motion sick and personally I feel stock 4Runners without KDSS flop around like a sea vessel. Once I drove my Trail with KDSS I was sold immediately. Night and day, almost like two different vehicles.

So, in just purchased brand new SR5 my co-pilot gets motion sick while on road driving
We didn't have this problem in most other cars including rental 4runner once before. This is a huge disappointment...

Any suggestions on minimal suspension upgrade to mitigate this problem?

To response to a few comments and suggestions: This is not the first car we own or drive. But the first to have this issue. We owned a few different ones and we rented a few including 4runner and didn't have the problem. It appears we are sensitive to this particular one. Question is how to correct this without paying arm or leg...

For me personally motion sickness is caused by the peripheral view of movement out the side window. Having the sides tinted might help cut that down a bit.

For others, the distortion of the added layer/color could also cause issues.

I'm ready to do this now, but I'd like to find a quick strut assembly to do it myself. Could somebody suggest one without lift?

Bilstein doesn't seem to have quick strut and Rancho only has 2 in lift which I don't want.

If you fell comfortable swapping struts on your own, you should be able to install 5100s using the no spring compressor method. It’s really not that difficult nor much more work. Check out a couple of YouTube videos for what’s involved.

If you don’t won’t to go that route, reach out to [MENTION=148378]Crikeymike[/MENTION] and see what Dobinsons offers. I’m pretty sure he can ship you an assembled strut that will do what your looking for. I’ve got Dobinsons’ springs paired with Bilstien 5100s and am very happy with them.

That’s it.
A couple of things to note:
LCA bolts need to be tightened with the vehicle on the ground. He goes over this at the end of the video.
Put a jack stand under the frame in front of the opposite rear tire. This keeps the rear suspension from compressing and makes it easier to compress the front assembly.
Note how the springs are clocked when reinstalling. He mentioned it but I don’t think explained very well.
Having a second jack helps.

After doing it this way, I don’t know how anybody can say this is more dangerous than using rented spring compressors.

Thank you everybody for your responses I have replaced front shocks with Bilstein 5100 and it seems to have solved the problem!

I just bought a new 2023 SR5 and it is giving me motion sickness. Should I just trade in my 4runner for a Tacoma???

A few years later: with new Bilstein 5100 It was fine for a little bit, but like 10K miles later nauseous came back uke:
Dramamine works but I'd like to fix the car instead....

Make co-pilot drive. Problem solved.
