Whip Antenna

Man I hope there is not already a post about this. I "searched" for cb but it was too short. Anyway, on with the question. Does anyone know of a good place to mount a 4-5 foot cb antenna on a 4Runner. For the life of me I can't think of anything. I know AlexJet has it mounted on his rear bumper protector, but I don't have one of those. Any good ideas? Pictures would be great too.

How much drilling do you want to do?

1) You could mount it on a swivel mount on the roof rack and swivel it down for highway or low clearance areas. (this would also give you the best reception)

2) You could get a rear bumper protector and mount it low

Both of these would prevent you from drilling into the body...

3) Or you could use the old Jeep standby and drill into the rear quarter, but this would probably violate the rust-through warranty and leave an ugly antenna mount on the rear quarter.

I'd try the first one - least expensive and you only raise the antenna when you need it.

Another option would be a magnetic mount. A Wilson 1000 or 5000 mag. mount is a good choice and gets great reception. It can be unsrewed at the base when you need to garage the truck. Just keep a good coat of wax on the paint where the antenna is and be careful when removing it to prevent scratches.

The magnetic idea seems like a great idea. I also thought about getting an extra tow hitch and drilling into the tongue of it to mount the whip. That way I can remove the tongue and antenna when I am not using it. Thanks for all the advice.
