Mounting Magnefine filter?

Where/how do you guys mount the filter? I was thinking of getting a bracket like the one the fuel filter uses, but if it isn't necessary then I won't bother. I'm using the factory cooler if it helps. Don't bother telling me the benefits of an external cooler; I know already.

When I had mine it just rested on top of the frame rail and with the stiff ATF Goodyear hoses movement seemed minimal.

I have seen on more than one occasion (not on a 4runner) where someone uses a huge zip tie to secure it to the frame rail or even industrial velcro.

Good news is that you were right, the lines are stiff enough to keep it from bouncing. I just zip-tied it to the frame.

The bad news is that stupid me installed it on the entry line thinking it was the return line. Because of this, the filter is now installed backwards. Google tells me that it shouldn't harm anything, since the filter will function just fine with the only drawback being that the bypass valve cannot work. I plan on changing it again in 4 months(about 4000 miles), so I hope it doesn't clog up and screw up my work.

On the bright side, this filter seems to have filtered some crap out. It is shifting WAY better now. Not to say prior shift quality was crap, but it always felt smooth but kind of slow.

I wouldn't worry much about it. It can flow both ways with ease. The only reason I don't use one anymore is that the hoses on both ends started to leak after two years so I went to using a spin on filter. Otherwise no problem.

Good to know. Also, what ATF are you using? I used Valvoline Maxlife. I figure that the high mileage fluid is a smart idea since this 4Runner used to tow a Honda S2k 100 miles each way to the track every other weekend for 10 years before I got it.

Which spin on did you use?

BTW, Valvoline Max Life is what I have been using, works fine. Did several drain and fills.
