Mounting Sand ladders on 4Runner?

Where are your sand ladders mounted and how are they secured?

Haven't got any, cause I can't imagine ever being stuck in sand, but if I did, they would be mounted to my Baja rack.

I may be getting some to use in the snow and mud. I don't have a winch yet so this will be part of my self recovery Kit.

I think I saw some in here that the owner had just drilled directly down through his crossbars and anchored the mounts. They rode flat on the top like stacked surfboards.

That was me. Worked like a champ. Left them up there for about a month as an experiment.
