Mounting Spare on Gobi?

Need some help...pictures would be awesome! Has anyone mounted their spare on their Gobi Stealth Rack? Have you made a DIY mount? Thanks!

Southern style offroad makes a spare mount for roof racks. I'm sure you could rig up an attachment to a gobi pretty easily.

Thanks man! Gobi has a spare tire attachment but its about the same cost as the SSO one...I really didn't want to spend $100 on one, BUT just looking for options!

You can use a $5 ACK cam buckle strap, work well on the cheap if you don’t want a mount bolted to your rack and the spare isn’t up there all the time. Loop it through the spokes, around the side rails and back over into itself.

[MENTION=295428]moshie[/MENTION] I've done it with just a ratchet strap. You can wrap it around the wheel spokes instead of the tire so you don't even see it.

FWIW I did not like having it up there at all. It definitely changed the feel while driving. Especially off road.

I carried mine up there for years, I just used one 6"-8" long bolt with some washers and nylock nuts on it so it would rattle loose on its own. Just put a fender washer on the bolt (or a wider plate of some kind and maneuver it up through the mesh and through one of the lug nut holes. Put on another washer and crank down the nylock nut on top.

It was a b!tch getting it up and down, it didn't drive any different that I could tell, I could never use a parking garage which was a pita, but the worst part was every Ricard and his brother had to make a fricking comment about my d@mn tire on top. It was literally to the point of ridiculousness how many people talking about my spare. You would think no one ever saw a spare tire before.
