mouse in airbox = lean bank 1

Aparently, a mouse has been living in my airbox making a nest out of the filter (found acorns on my manifold) for a few days. CEL came on, so I cleaned maf, tb & all the airbox tubing. Went ahead & cleaned pcv & listened for vacuum leaks. I'm currently running fuel system cleaner in tank. CEL came back on today. Is there a way to test a maf?

no this is actually pretty common believe it or not.

Nothing to take pictures of really, just a pile of white paper from the filter.
The car runs great & mpg is still 20+ so no real issues other than the light. Fuel filter replaced last year.
I did notice the coolant was just past the low mark which is wierd since I check everything every time I fill up. I wonder if an air bubble needs to work its way out?

He chewed through the paper air filter to the other side. Doesn't seem very hard really.

Your right. I just didn't think it would put forth the effort to chew through the filter just to get to the other side of it. Lol dumb animals. Hope it didn't cause too much damage?

Back to the original question, Is there an easy way to test the MAF, O2 sensor or anything else that would cause a lean bank 1 error?:shrug:

a super duper manual "might" have test procedures for components that other manuals just say to replace. to me, it sounds like a plain-ol' RAT, they eat and store anything, anywhere, anytime. being a rodent they chew incessantly and could have easily taken a nibble of vacuum lines while storing acorns around your manifold. vacuum leaks will throw that code as well, check everything you could get to if you were a rat.

I didn't see what it was; I just saw a pile of acorns sitting on the manifold a week before the cel came on. Then I noticed the air filter was shredded with a pile of filter paper on one side of the air filter closest to the manifold. I took the whole airbox appart to the throttle plate looking for a dead animal; nothing was there. So, I cleaned the maf sensor, pcv, throttle plate & so on.

What did you clean the maf with? Third time cleaning mine with I think qrc's electronics components cleaners. Same stuff brothers have used and it actually messed mine up pretty well. Threw a light and ran funny til I got the maf specific cleaner for it.

CRC Mass Air Flow Sensor Cleaner from Advance Auto. Designed for MAF, however, the instructions said not to use it with certain Lexus/Toyota MAF sensors. Mine was not one of those.

Follow up

Dealership checked everything out, for free, & said definatly maf. I bought a denso but the cel was reset & hasn't come back on so I may be returning the part. I'll be taking a 550mile trip this week so we'll see.
side note...Don McGill Toyota of Katy has to be the best service & parts I've ever dealt with. Steve in parts & the bald guy in service were great. Highly recommend this place if you're from the Houston area.
