Movin' on up. Going from 99 Durango to 03 Sport Edition

I am going to fly to Houston from Denver Friday morning to buy a 2003 Sport Edition with 25k miles on it (asking 24K). I looked at a similar sport edition in Denver, without leather, and the dealer was asking 31K for it. Much cheaper to buy an SUV from Texas, and then drive back to Denver.

I see it has the unpainted cladding, but the grill appears to be silver or possibly chrome? Or did the unpainted cladding come with a silver grille?

And leather on the inside? I guess it was dealer installed, or possibly installed by the original owner.

Probably port installed, the local distibutor "Gulf States Toyota" seems to like the markup of port installed leather.

I think the early sport editions came with silver grille, door handles, roof rack, that piece on the liftgate, and grey cladding.

Are the door handles silver in those pics? It's hard to tell.

BTW, all Sport Editions have silver roof racks. I believe that has always been true.

Did all of the '03 Sports have unpainted cladding? Or did they paint the cladding on some of the '03 models?

They changed to body color cladding halfway through 03. I have a very early 03 Sport.

Yes, sports have silver door handles, grill, roof rack, and rear license plate areas. I like that it matches my Titanium Silver paint.

Actually, they didn't, but had I not already replaced the ball joints, they would of eventually.

Dodge knew about that problem for years, and was forced to do the recall by the NHTSA. That is bad business, and gives me little faith in their product.

The early '03 Sports with the grey cladding had silver grill accents, door handles, rear license plate moulding and roof rack. I know, I have one.

The black leather is definately aftermarket.

Good selection there. At least you didn't fall for the SR5/Sport gimmic! All sports have the silver handles, grill, and license plate garnish. You will definitely enjoy your ride from Houston to Denver in the 4Runner. By the way, did you go with the V6 or V8?

I went with the V6.
I rarely tow, and gas mileage was definately key.

I averaged around 13.5mpg with my durango.
