MPG loss/premature wear from MTs?

I have been wanting 255/85/16s for years, and it’s finally time to get new tires, but Costco only has this size in an MT.

I’m lifting and getting bigger tires, so I’m expecting to lose some MPG. Would MTs make an even bigger loss, and would the tread wear prematurely? I am about 60/40 - 70/30 for on road/off road. Definitely on road a lot, but off road nearly every weekend.

Tires in question are BFG KM3.

MTs are loud as hell, handle and brake poorly, are bad on every surface that isn't off road, chunk easily, can be scary in the snow and rain, and wear quickly and unevenly while being prone to the belt separation.
