Hi Everyone,

I hope everyone has been having a great new year! I haven't been updating my thread since nothing has really changed on the truck until these last couple of weeks.

I decided to sell my wilco rear tire carrier with hopes of making a custom carrier, but I seemed to have fallen in love with how the rear looks stock. Currently, I'm running my 295 trail grappler under truck. I also sold my baja rack jerry can carrier in exchange for a 4 gallon rotopax. The reason why I did this was because of my tent. The baja rack jerry can holder made it difficult for me to open my tent and to be quite honest, I didn't really need 10 extra gallons of fuel.

On to the exciting news, the truck will be going under the knife within the next week. I will be installing some 4.88 nitro gears. With these new gears, I will also be ordering a new set of 315-70-17 Nitto Ridge Grapplers. I plan on running these with my 1.5in spacer so i'm sure I will run into a lot of fitment issues, especially since I still have a stock front bumper. I also plan on keeping my 295 as a spare, but sometime down the line, I will swap it for a 285-75-17, so that the circumference of the tire will be closer to the 315.

Anyways, I don't currently have any pictures, but I'll definitely post some once the tires and gears are on! (I know you guys can't see the gears lol)

Hey Everyone!

The new tires arrived today! They are 315-70-17 Nitto Ridge Grapplers. I really wanted to go with another set of trail grapplers, but the 315 were too big for my comfort. I'm still running a 295 trail grappler as my spare and I don't plan on switching it out anytime soon.

I am hoping to get them mounted this weekend! Also, I am currently waiting on parts from Nitro in order for my 4.88 job to begin. Hopefully it gets here soon so I can start breaking those new gears in!

Hi Everyone,

Here's an update on the rig!

I got the new tires mounted yesterday and I was quite shocked on how similar in size the 315 ridges and 295 trails are. Overall, I'm happy i made the jump to 315's, but if I were to do it again, I may have just stayed 295 so I wouldn't have to re-gear. The truck is now slower than the fastest turtle on earth. I feel really un-comfortable trying to get on the freeway, and over taking on the streets. I can't wait until those parts come in from Nitro, so I can get my 4.88 job done, because the truck is begging for it with these 315's on.

Another thing that shocked me was how there wasn't many rubbing issues, that I was expecting. I had to hammer out some of my wheel wells, but I was already expecting that. If anyone is curious about my wheel specs, I am running the stealth custom series ray 10 in 17x8.5 -10 with a synergy 1.5in hubcentric wheel spacer.

Welp, it's finally going under the knife. The shop sent me this pic yesterday and hopefully it will be done by this weekend.

On a side note, it was my first time driving on the freeway with 315's and the trans was switching between 3rd and 4th just to keep it around 70. I don't know how people run 315's or 35's with no gears.

Also, does anyone have any recommendations for diff fluid? I was previously running redline, but i'm debating on buying the nitro stuff.

I got the truck back today and it drives so much better. I would definitely recommend re-gearing to anyone that is running larger tires! Here are some pics of my old gears for evidence LOL

Just an fyi, I went with Nitro 4.88's, but if your the type of driver that likes to drive fast, then you should probably get 4.56 gears. My rpm's are around 2500 at 70mph, and it will probably be around 3000 if I were doing 80mph.

I ended up canceling the order. I am really trying to keep the OEM plus look and going that route will definitely lead me to buying a front bumper, which I really don't want lol. I also didn't want the added weight. I already get horrible gas mileage, which is now much better thanks to the gears.

How much change with MPG did adding the gears have?

I gained almost 2mpg back. I was averaging 12.3 without the regear and after the regear i'm bouncing between 14.1-14.5

This is subjective based on your driving habits and traffic conditions. I have been driving through a lot of stop and go traffic conditions these past couple of days, but I expect it to dip to around low 13's on long road trips.

Hi Everyone,

Just a little update on the build.

I am really happy with my viair 400p compressor, but it was taking around 5 minutes a tire to air up my 295's. I can't imagine how long it will take to air up my 315's. For this reason, I am moving on to the arb dual compressor and a 4x4labs mount.

I am also getting the rig ready for my yearly extended excursion with my buddies. This year we will be going on a 5 day trip to the north rim of the grand canyon, so i'll be doing some regular maintenance items before then. I always end up buying some last minute modifications just because I'm going on a long excursion, so I wonder what i'll end up buying this year LOL

what grill did you buy that can fit the ridgid led bar that you got? i have been having trouble finding pre-facelift compatible led bars so switching grills is probably the way to go...and im basically looking for an amber/white combo that you have.

I second this! I was looking at Rigids website like your build list says you have, but couldnt find anything for the pre facelift years.

I appreciate the kind words! I know my build thread isn't that popular, so I actually update it for myself. I like looking back and seeing all the progression I made from when I first got the truck!

My grille is actually made from rigid industries, the same manufacture as the light bar. Unfortunately, rigid discontinued the grille shortly after I purchased it. I believe you can still find it on google through 3rd party vendors. Just google "10-13 4runner rigid grille" or something along those lines.

This is one of my favorite threads because its identical to where im going. 2010 TE, black, 285s that I want to jump to 305s or 315s. Dorkel. Just installed my C4 low pro bumper and winch. I appreciate the pre facelift trucks and love mine. Stay with it!
