mud and dirt intrusion

I took my new 2005 4Runner out in mud this past weekend and tested the 4WD system. Very nice. Unfortunately, I found a lot of mud up inside the rear doors. Has anyone else experienced this problem and is there any way to make that area more resistant to mud when off-roading?

Did it get past the weather stripping, or did it just get in the seams?

There are two weather strips. The mud was inside the first of the two, but not past the second one. I'm not sure the point of the first if it doesn't keep mud out better than it did. My dealership salesman said he did not have an answer. I asked at the parts dept. for a fix and they said they had never had anybody report this problem.

The rear doors have a large area that is outside both seals, that catch a lot of mud and is a pain to clean. Check to make sure that it actaully did get past the seal. I haven't had an issue with it yet.

Ive had this happen on my 3rd gen every time i go wheelin. I dont think its a serious problem, its just a bit of a hassle to go in and wipe out the doors after you wash your rig. If you find a solution please tell me!

I think the mud inside the panel is normal, though I don't care much for it either. It's even worse with the step boards removed!
I usually wash it out at the car wash using the low setting.

I just noticed this happening with my 4runner. Mud and small rocks can get past the first strip but cannot get anywhere near the second strip and into the the vehicle. I find this pretty annoying too, but I know of no solution.

Yeah, the cladding hangs over into the wheel well and it catches junk but it never goes past the seal. I agree, it is a pain to think you have it clean and open the back door to see all that mud.

My 3rd GEN was the same way.

I get the same thing in my '01. I just leave the mud in there since its going to get dirty again anyway.
