mud bogging

I've taken my rig off road before (nothing too serious), but today is the first time I've taken my 4Runner out in the mud. I don't mean a few mud puddles--I'm talking flash flood rain for the past 8 hours and deep, thick, sticky mud that would trap a lesser vehicle like a mamoth in a tar pit!

The all whell drive functioned perfectly and I had a great time turning my gray Runner brown. Even my wife who doesn't much care for this kind of stuff had fun--although she did seem to hold on to the oh-$hit bars pretty tightly a few times. Even with the stock tires we seemed to do fine, but I wouldn't push my luck by trying to go up or down a steep grade.

All I can say is that I've only driven one other vehicle that was more fun, and the Army won't let me do that any more :angel:

what part of tx was under flash flood? Maybe Dallas? I heard they've gotten a lot of rain lately. Was it all flat or hilly, etc? Explain. Any pics?

Sorry, I forgot to mention that I just moved up to Colorado Springs, CO and I'm not in Texas anymore. :bonk: My wife and I were just killing time on a rainy Thursday afternoon before we can move in to our house tomorrow. The hotel was boring...

The area I was driving in was mainly flat and already an established trail. Colorado seems to have more advanced trails all over the place, but this was more or less a poorly maintained fire road. In dryer conditions it would just be a simple dirt trail with a number of ruts, but today it was mudsville. The rain was going all afternoon and El Passo County was under flash flood alert.

I felt the traction control kick in a number of times and the brakes did their pulsing too. Overall, having the computer control was nice. I was able to maintain control with minimum effort. I wasn't going to do anything extreme--I wanted to have fun, not wreck my Toy.

We didn't bring a camera. I guess we should have, but this was pretty much unplanned. We saw the trail while driving around the area and I made a command decision to check it out.
The neat thing about driving back to the hotel is that the rain and the deep water along the road washed most of the mud off! Less for me to do tomorrow

nope, never locked the center diff--didn't feel like I needed to. :bouncy:

Next time I take it out in the mud I'll have to experiment more. Won't have much of a chance anytime soon though 'cuz I've got a ton of work to do around the new house over the next few weeks. When I'm not working I'll be painting, sawing and digging my way to true homeownership :artist:
