Mud Flap Delete?

I've only been off road a couple times and have already had a mud flap, umm, fall off. :hatsoff:

So my question is, does anyone have any ideas about taking them all off? It looks like there is a huge opening behind the rear wheel that will quickly fill up with mud/debris. Is there a mud flap delete kit? Did all 4runners have mud flaps? I've called the local dealer, and well, they didn't know...

I don't mind replacing the one that, umm, "fell off" but I don't think this will be an isolated incident with my driving "style".

Well the first thing you can do is just trim it back to the first notch. Or if that still isn't enough, up to the bottom of the fender. BUT, yes you pretty much have to leave the top part on, like you said, your fender wells will just fill up with dirt and mud that'll be hard to get out and likely eventually rust through in there...

Throw some ideas at me on where to get some flat plastic material that I could make a delete panel. Mock one out of cardboard maybe, then transfer it onto some kind of plastic.

Any ideas where I could get some flat sheet plastic similar thickness to the flaps?

cant you just cut whats already there up to the molded part that meets the body? that would get you there with minimal effort

Well, the one is completely missing so I can't trim it...

I don't mind buying one, maybe it was just a freak occurrence that it fell off.
Probably not though, so I'm trying to get some ideas for the future.

maybe try a plastic 4 ring binder and cut to shape like you said.

Just trim the one you already have. But keep the flaps, nothing is worse than getting peppered on a dirt road because someone decided not having rear mudflaps looked cool.

Looks like it's time to break out the dremel and do a little trimming. You should be able to make it fairly clean looking if you take your time. I used the cutting wheel to cut off my fender liners when I installed my bumper. Fairly easy. Just know that molten plastic burns! Hah!!

Why plastic? Most farm or trucker supply outfits ought to have generic mudflap stuff. I get mine at Six States, big giant semi truck mudflaps you can trim to fit.

But if you have to have plastic, get a square five gallon bucket and go to town on it.

It is a silly thread.
When I said my mudflap fell off, I mean it fell off. Missing. Gone. Don't have it to trim or reattach.
Then I thought, hey, maybe go ask the question because I didn't have the answer and couldn't find it with the search tool. I thought, hey, maybe someone else has already run into this and they could give me some advice.

You see, when something breaks or falls off, I would rather fix it stronger or leave it off if practical. Because, that's what I do. I try to make my off road vehicles better for, well, off roading. I always forget that the vast majority of 4x4 owners don't know how to use the 4x4, and are mainly keyboard warriors.

I don't understand, my truck didn't come with mudflaps and that space was covered. In all these responses did every other person get the flaps? I assume the plastic piece that covered it is probably expensive to buy compared to buying a new set of flaps and cutting so that solution makes the most sense to me. But OP, look around some more if you are looking for a factory fit item. I'll look at mine later to see what it looks like, I did add mud flaps but they just basically clipped on over the factory stuff.

Or you could just go ahead and get a steel rear bumper cuz based on that pic, you need it.

The number of "cut the one you have" comments is hilarious, he lost it on the trail people.

My local dealer said they didn't have a clue if they all came with flaps or not. Then said they couldn't tell if there was anything to cover the opening without flaps. Less than helpful.

Aftermarket bumpers are in MY plan, but I just gotta damage these, errr.... umm, convince the wife to upgrade IF these get some trail damage on them.... :behindsofa: lol

It's no big deal, just wanted to see what others have done and maybe get some answers.

I think they changed the wheel well area on the 2014's and up. I don't think the parts are interchangable, but I could be wrong.

For 2014+ (and maybe other years) the flap is somewhat integrated into the fender liner. If you don't have a flap, you got a different liner that covers the hole. You could try to order the different liners or trade with someone who doesn't have flaps.

My neighbor has a 2011 T4R that doesnt have mud flaps. There is a delete you can get to cover that part. Ive been looking for one too. Sorry, I dont have the part number ;-(
