I took my running boards off. Some people like it, some don't, but it doesn't matter because I do. So I was looking at frt. and rear flaps. They are priced anywhere from $30 to 180 for the Weathertech. I found some Toyota ones that look just like the flaps I had on my 86 and they are $120 for 2. They say they will fit up to a 95 and are only listed as rear. Has anyone out there tried them on a 3G? I like the 4WD logo on them. Reminds me of the 86 and if my memory serves me, which often it doesn't, my 86 had them on the frt. and rear. Thanks for any input on this matter.

Basically any mud flap will fit. There are two holes that the front end of the running board caps used to bolt to that you can uses, then fab up a small little "Z" bracket for the hole that is farther in and set back (square) to hole the inner bit of the mud flap.
Also note that the first gen Tacoma mud flaps fit on the 4Runner. You can model the size and fit from those, or find a set (they are expensive though!). No writing on the front flaps, just the rear for the Tacomas...

$20 from Autozone gets you a universal. I wish they were a bit lower. My limited rear fender flares have pit marks from gravel hitting them.

As long as they don't get sucked up when backing up or ripped off offroad, the longer the better, basically...
I put on a set to help keep the front doors from getting dirty and the sliders from getting too sand blasted. We will see how they last.

You're correct, factory's are all expensive as are aftermarkets, at least the ones with any thickness to them. Why so much for a piece of rubber? Who knows. You can buy a mudflap for a Peterbuilt cheaper. I already have the ones on the rear because they didn't come off with the running boards, just looking for the fronts and it seems only rears are available. Looks like I'm gonna have to spend big money on an experiment.

For the back do your fender flares not already have mudflaps built in? Unless you don't have any flares then maybe you don't have any factory.
I ran the stock flaps built into my flares when I had the original bumper. When I upgraded to my 4xinnovations bumper I went with some rally armor flaps that have held up well and look good. There's plenty of pics of both in my build thread.

I got the OEM from my dealership. I think they costed $79 for the front two. They flair outward a little so on my base without any flair it looks a bit odd if you look at them long enough, but it works well enough.
