Muffler... Ohhhpinions?

Here is my cheap exhaust option. It's pretty loud and has some drone but I rarely notice it anymore. I love it for the price and have had nothing wrong with it so far. For warning. The video doesn't do the muffler justice. It is a cherry bomb extreme.

I cut the stock muffler off and welded the cherry bomb on and ran a few inches of pipe so it's behind the back Passengers to keep it legal in Texas. Let me know what you think

I have the Flowmaster Super 44 on my 2007 V8 and the drone is terrible. At 2000rpm on an incline you can't hear yourself think.

But it is not bad on parkways
Just during takeoff

I could always try and slap the resonator back on
But i kinda like it
 
I had my flowmaster 50 series SUV installed today. At first, I had the shop leave the resonator on. I started it up and it sounded STOCK... :mad:

So I pulled back in, had them chop it off and replace the resonator with a straight pipe. Still not as loud as I wanted it.... But I think I will thank myself in the end. The guy said they 'break in' and might get a little louder after I put some miles on it.


But there is a video of a 4runner with a 4.7 and a 50 series on Youtube... The video makes it sound way beefier than it does in real life IMO.

The 50 SUV muffler is just a little deeper than stock at idle and lower RPM's. Full throttle seems to get quieter instead of louder. :shrug:

Not completely disappointed though.

Not ready to yank it off yet. Shipping would be pretty rough NY-TX

I got the muffler from Summit for $129 shipped, and the muffler place charged $50.


I had magnaflow on a Titan with the 5.6 and it sounded beefy but got had that glass pack 'snap' at high RPM under WOT.
 
I don't have a good video of the "after" yet. but installed my muffler a couple days ago (got the Magnaflow 11256 instead of the Borla) and put on the intake (AFE dry) tonight. Together, the sound is simply amazing. After installing the muffler, I was really missing the package sound but now I have it. My windows were rolled down for the first :30. I was just doing a quick test drive and the road near my house is under contruction so sorry. Will put a better vid up on my build thread. I really REALLY love it, the power response is noticeable, and the two really go incredibly well together. Drone? A little.... but that's what the stereo is for. All in all....

I LOVE IT!

I feel like a knuckle head for constantly updating this post, buuuuuutttt....

My 50 series seems to have really 'broken in' nicely and the sound has increased and improved. At 70mph/ or 2000rpm's there is a little drone. Nothing awful, but it makes me think about adding some sound deadening material in the back.

Also, I guess they use some sort of oil inside the muffler, and it takes awhile to bake out.... Sheeeeooooo thing smells like burnt... I dunno what. But it's not good. I think its almost done with that after a week of driving. Google says this is normal.

So yeah, thats all, just wanted to update about.
 
I also like my 50 series muffler
Drone is manageable
Sounds sweet
Same here with the smell
It took five days for that to clear up
I swear my truck is pulling harder niw
 
I swapped the Super 44 for a 50 series and I love the new sound. I am installing the tail pipe on Monday so I hope it doesn't change too much. Hopefully just moves the delightful growl a little farther back.
 
Since it has come up again, I really like my choice as well.... Got the Magnaflow. Sounds like the true truck it is and I get double takes all the time. Took it on a long road trip and got tired of it a few times but don't regret it. The sound has deepened greatly. It is one of the coolest things I've done to it IMO.
 
the magnaflow muffler is just too quiet for me, i have compared my truck with another member's truck, he had the magnaflow catback, i had the flowmaster super 44, at idle my truck was louder.
 
Ah! Glad you love your sound! I wanted a low growl, didn't want it too loud.... I feel like the 18" is perfect with my air intake. I'll have to take a new video.

After listening to your videos, I think the Magnaflow is exactly what I'm looking for. Noticeable improvement but not overly loud or ricey.

Question - why the turn down before the axle? Does that effect the sound or was it done to keep the exhaust tucked up and out of the way for off road action?

I ask because I think I'd rather have it run out past the axle and side exit but I'm curious if that will effect the sound much? Thanks

I put the turn down because it got rid of the sulfur smell when driving with the back window down. It probably won't effect the sound as much. I just didn't like the look of the tailpipe in its stock location. And also it keeps the lift gate cleaner and none of that black exhaust particles get stuck to it.
