Muffler Shield

Has anyone had any issues with the muffler shield? Heard a vibration over the weekend. Went to a friends garage to put it on a lift and the back to bolts had rusted through the aluminum. Stripped one of the bolts when trying to put a washer on. Any suggestions? Do we really need the shield?

it just helps keep some heat off the floor of the body...you could put some high temp insulation or something there in place of it. It isn't needed no...

Mine was rattling around and dragging on the driveshaft for a couple days before I could crawl under to find wtf the problem was. I just pulled it and it came right off. Pretty sure that means it's non-essential!

My wife called and said she heard a terrible noise coming from the rear of the car. I was happy to find it was just the muffler shield. It did sound terrible before I pulled it off!

Since removing the shield over the muffler the shield over the pipe before the muffler worked itself loose. Made a nasty rattling noise before I pulled it off. Hoping my feet wont get to hot this summer without them!
