Relatively recently, I noticed that when I fill up, the maximum range estimated on my MID is about ~350 miles or so I used to see about 430 or so. Admittedly, I don't recall what the longest range I've managed to get out of it, although I don't think it was over 400 miles on a tank. I realize that display is simply an estimate and it's not to be used for fuel planning to a certain degree, but I've always found it reasonably helpful.

Anyone know what the large discrepancy in the numbers? Do I need to recalibrate something? I've searched the forum and couldn't quite find any specifics although it does seem to have happened to a number of people. My SR5 is a 2006 (V6) and this issue with the mileage estimate is only a few months old. Just wondering what might have caused it.

Can't help you in terms of what to do about it (although it's always been my understanding that the "reset" but on the MID somehow resets the mpg calculation and the resulting mileage estimate), but I can tell you that I'm the original owner of my '06 and I've never gotten mileage estimates more than about 325 ...

i have an 04 with 138k, v6, owned about 6 mos now. in the summer in MA
i was getting 20 mpg and 400-412 miles on my computer after filling up, then on odometer trip id get about 380ish, never the 400 or 412.

now that it has been about 15* IN THE MORNINGS AND DAILY HIGHS OF 30* (sorry for caps)
the display reads like 380-400 and i am only getting 350ish per tank on trip test. winter gas and a few other factors can bring the mpg down in the winter i have read, like 12% drop or something. tire pressures etc.

Wow ... wish I got those kinds of numbers. I'm sure my tires have an impact, but maybe it's the way I drive :bat:
 
The display always showed 400-425 when I bought my '07 in late 2014. 50K miles later, it's like the OP's, never showing over 380-385. I don't think it's related to my driving habits since I started driving during the '70s fuel shortage/price hikes so I use every fuel saving habit I know of*. Thought it might improve when I changed the spark plugs, cleaned the MAF sensor and throttle body, etc., but it didn't.

* Which reminds me of a pet peeve - people who jam the gas to the floor when accelerating and wait till they're 20 feet from a stop sign or light before standing on the brakes, then complain b/c their vehicle gets lousy mileage and always needs brake pads. :ohwell:
 
Display always show 650km / 403 miles when filled up.
What I actually get depends on driving habits, weather & road conditions.

Holy sh!te. I don't think mine has ever shown over 330 miles when full. Coincidentally, 330 miles is the best I've ever managed on a tank of gas.

While my numbers have always been significantly lower than yours, they've always stayed fairly consistent. If I saw that kind of change (without having made changes to my vehicle), then I'd be wondering what was going on ...

Have you disconnected the battery lately? Mine consistently showed 420 after filling up but after disconnecting the battery and resetting everything, it showed 380ish as the computer relearned/recalibrated.

After a few months, it's back to 420 unless I'm in 4WD for multiple days then it drops to lower 400s. It may not be completely accurate but I find it pretty consistent.

Agree, the drop in the displayed range is what concerns me. Did some simple math and an average of 17.09 MPG x 23.4 gallons capacity (IIRC) would produce 400 miles of range. I track my mileage using trip odo/gallons to fill and will see whether the range figure displayed matches up with my average MPG.

I'm in the military and recently had my vehicle shipped back to the States so I suppose it's possible they disconnected the battery for the transit? I'm not sure though. I will say it was after I got it back to the States that I noticed the drastic change in the numbers.

I'm resetting my trip meter when I fill up now to see what I'm getting and sure enough the last tank got me around 350 miles before it was almost empty.

Maybe it's been that way for years and I just never noticed?

So I filled up last night with 78 litres. '06 LTD V6.
80 litre tank or 17.1 US gallons
I always reset trip odo when filling up

Trip odo showed 548 kms (340 miles) mixed driving, travelled and that included probably about 50 km in 4WD.

Soon as I moved, range counter reset to an est. 637 (395 miles) but I rarely hit 600.
