Sorru guys I had to sign up with a different name. Somehow I could'nt post with my original username. Anyway I have had the car for 6 months now. I have done two oil changes on it myself and poked around under the hood etc. It is definitely a V6 without a doubt. I am still learning a few things about the car that I did'nt know though and this is why I brought up this multi mode switch topic. I myself find it odd since a few people I talked to in person from work etc are saying the same thing the org members are saying about the switch.
Anyone that works at a dealership please chime in if you might have seen a similar case like mine in the past.

I agree -- something is very strange. Someone replacing the bezel with the wrong one seems to be the most logical explanation at this point.CJ3Flyr said:

Well if it's a used 4Runner, it's quite possible that someone else replaced the switch with the V8 version. Since the drivetrain is identical in both V6 and V8's, the V8 switch would just have you running in full-time mode all the time.
Another question out of curiosity, do you constantly have a 4WD indicator on in the instrument cluster? I would figure that this green light representing the wheels, axles, and driveshaft would always be lit versus the V8 model not having this.

To answer the question yes the car is preowned. I bought it six months ago with 18000+ miles. And yes the 4WD indicator light in the instrument panel is always lit. But even is there is speculation of the cover being switched then should'nt I be able to turn it to the left where the H2 would normally be. I tried this already, but it can't. The switch can only be turned to the right in the L4 position.

Someone also asked about pics. I took these just a short while ago. One of the Multi-mode switch. One of the 4WD indicator light in the insturment panel which is always on. And the other is the engine bay. It is a V6.

Mike07SE may be on the right track. Looks as though the previous owner replaced the switch and bezel to make it full-time 4WD. Can't imagine why someone would do that, but that would be a topic for another thread.Redstone8 said:
For grins, just try to turn the switch to the left to see if the switch has been changed or not. If you can't move to the left, then it's a fair bet that you would just need to replace the switch and bezel back to the V6 version to get 2WD back.

I just looked at this site and read the brochure. It doesn't show any variance to explain it. http://www.toyotareference.com/#4R
Canadian model imported to here?? Maybe they had it different than we did, I doubt it though. Someone must have changed the switch for some reason. Maybe they bashed the t-case and found a used V8 t-case cheap. Good luck!

Suggest a car-fax and verify ALL vins on the vehicle. I have the V-8 and know little of the V-6 so do not know if can be run in 4-Hi all the time and if there is a maximum allowable speed in 4-Hi.
