So I am putting together a cargo area in the back of my runner and I want to know what everybody carries with them wherever they go. I want to be prepared for anything. If you have pics, I would love that too! Thank you!
Must haves for offroading:

My "offroad essentials" include:
- First Aid Kit
- Rain Jacket
- Recovery Strap
- Tree Saver Strap
- 3x Clevis'
- Hitch receiver shackle mount (if you don't have a rear bumper) and/or proper frame-mounted recovery points front and rear.
- Winch Recovery Items: Snatch Block, winch line extension
- Hi-Lift
- Air compressor
- Tire Repair Kit
- Extra tire valve cores
- Spare tire/wheel
- Tool kit
- Proper spare parts, depending on your rig and where your going. An old drive belt, tie-rod end, CV axle (and corresponding socket to change one), duct tape, electrical tape, and RTV
- Spare fluids: Oil, Brake Fluid, Coolant, grease, ATF
I think thats it? LOL Sounds like a lot but I usually have at least 95% of the above with me, everytime I'm on the trail.

She was pulled out in about an hour and I got her mostly fixed up besides replacing the body panels, which will wait until I am at home. Can hardly tell she rolled though, rear windows replaced and fenders resinstalled.
If you plan on rolling and you are alone I would suggest packing three hi-lifts/come-alongs too

This is a really comprehensive list. It looks almost exactly like mine, except I also carry a pulaski, a shovel, and a bugout with emergency stuff (snacks, shelter, blanket, etc). And don't forget maps.
Remind me next time we're out, Noah, I'll let you check out my setup. It packs down much smaller than you'd think.

Like when you go wheeling with some members on here and they kill the starter, Battery, and almost fry the main fuse box all at the same time on the trail when the closest parts store is almost 40 miles away.

The first thing I would suggest is gaining experience.
What I mean by that is start out with easier trails, as you gradually gain knowledge of what kind of terrain your truck and you are capable/willing to drive on. Also how much you're willing to risk, in terms of possible mechanical and body damage to your truck.
Going with others isn't a bad idea either, so if you get into trouble you'll have help.
Some trails also have an element of possible serious injury or death, if a mistake is made. Years ago I was in a Ouray, Co. gas station, and asked if they had any recommendations for the nearby Black Bear Pass trail I was intending to drive over. The mechanic/tow truck driver showed me a picture of a Jeep Cherokee that had gone off one of the switchbacks. It looked like it had been in a car crusher. According to him the passengers died.
I still drove over the pass, but the knowledge of what could happen, made me more cautious than I otherwise might have been.
Anyway, I'm not trying to scare you into not getting into off-roading. I'm just trying to give you a bit of advice that I never got, prior to taking my first 4wd off-road, and learning things the hard way, by breaking parts on it.
BTW, it was good to meet you and other board members at the trail head, last Saturday.

In my storage drawers and/or Rubbermaid action packers.
I agree, you just need to be organized and all of that stuff really doesnt take up much space. And yes, I also always have an axe, a shovel, and toilet paper. haha
Depending on where you're going and the climate, maybe some non-perishable foods (MREs, canned stuffs, jerky, blah blah) fire starter and a little kindling, tarp (for rain protection or layout under rig during repairs), maybe a collapsing fishing reel w/tackle, extra clothes, stuff for your dog if you take one obviously.
550 Cord and carabiners.

Oh, and a small caliber firearm and ammo, if it's legal in the area.
