I'm also curious as to how they stole it considering that it had an anti-theft alarm and engine immobilizer. It would seem odd that they broke a window (maybe to release the emergency brake and shift it to neutral?) if they had to take the time to tow or flatbed it anyway. On the other hand, I'm not an auto thief, so I wouldn't be a good judge on car theft methods and procedures anyway.

Is the remote start a factory installed item?
From a previous post am I correct saying you leave a spare key in a "bypass box" somewhere in the vehicle?
Do you have to notify insurance companies if you have a remote start?
Does a remore start either increase/decrease premiums and/or void any policy if not declared?
Sure hope your truck turns up quickly and insurance pays out for a new one. You probably won't want it back after the ass#&*es have had their way with it. Last vehicle stolen from me was never seen again:cursin:

Well, I can't speak for every model or trim level... but I can speak for a 2005 V8 4wd Sport.
Chances are you do not have the GBS installed.
If someone spies a little antenna used for a remote start then the thief knows that you have the Valet Key in the vehicle - usually tucked up under the steering column.
BAM... brake a window - (w/o unlocking the door from the inside) hope in through the window. Find the Ignition Bypass Box, get key, hope out of window or extend arm out of broken window so that you can insert key into door lock and you have yourself a 4runner!

Notify your insurance? I guess it depends on the policy and owner. I recieve an insurance discount for the immobilzer. Disabling it and not telling them is fraud and probably grounds for cancellation or denying a claim. How they would find out? If your vehicle is found, and the police report mentions it. Some companies may care, some may not.
My cell phone-controlled vehicle security/tracking/control system included the remote start option, but I didn't use it to avoid invalidating the anti-theft feature in the key.
What I have is remote shut down.
So in case of carjacking, I can remote shut-off the engine, activate the panic mode, block the ignition and track the vehicle through my cell phone.

I have a question. Does hitting the panic mode button shut the vehicle off. I haven't tried it, nor have I read the manual about it.
