I hate to ask you, but how much did you pay for your 2003 Limited? You can probably get a V6 Limited with the premium stereo for around $38,500. When I was searching for a new truck, I didn't come accross any V6 with the XREAS. A V8 with premium stereo (no nav) and XREAS is going to probably be around $41,000. In this region, you are pretty much stuck with the sunroof, spoiler, and premium stereo on a Limited. A V8 Limited around here usually comes equipped with XREAS as well. Once again, these are ballpark prices I am giving. I am sure the dealers are looking to get rid of their 2005's now so you may get a nice deal. In addition, I don't know what rebates are available now.

Very interesting...I wonder what happens if the thief is driving on a freeway and you invoke the remote shutdown. Does it immediately disable the power steering and/or lock it, as well as the power brakes, as if you had turned it off via the ignition?

I know our police department has been using this for catching car thieves. They place a desirable vehicle in a high crime area and wait for it to be "borrowed" by your friendly neighborhood car thief. As soon as the police are in place, they remotely shut the vehicle down and lock the doors.

I negociated my 2003 for 34,000..
I can try sending e-mail withe price that want pay to a few dealers is better than going to the dealers in person.

that's how I got that price back in 2003, I took the e-mail that said $34,000 fro 2003 v6 limited to hudson toyota in jersey city N.J.

I bought my 2003 Limited V6 w/o Nav in October of 2003 from DCH Brunswick Toyota on Route 1 in North Brunswick, New Jersey for $34,500 w/taxes...The dealership offered a $750 rebate on 4Runners, then, and since my family has bought about 5 Toyotas from them, I paid only $200 over invoice.

Keep us posted. I thought these cyber keyed cars were pretty foolproof, but maybe they towed or flatbedded it.

Makes me extra happy mine came with LoJack (now I'm just wondering if I should take those windows stickers off - instead of being a deterant, it may alert them to the fact that I have LoJack).

It's only available in the Dominican Republic through a French wireless service provider.

It was invented by a team of university graduate students. They patented it in the U.S. and in Europe.

It doesn't exist anywhere else in the world.

I think they're planning to sell it first in other Latin American countries, until some big company in the U.S. becomes interested in licensing their technology.

I've seen this come up, unanswered, multiple times in this thread:

I wonder how they stole it, since it has the engine immobilizer installed? Wouldn't they have had to have towed it away? Did you leave a key inside of it somewhere?
 
There's actually a device (the size of an Ipod) that can send signals to any transponder key (w/in a certain range) w/the chip inside and can crack or copy the security code programmed into the immobilizer system. It was discussed in a thread about 6 months ago, I think, which referred to an online news website writing an article about it. Basically, the car thief can bypass the immobilizer security system and start the vehicle. So no tow truck is necessary, not to say that the thief couldn't have used a tow truck. Either way, it's a real bummer.

my 4runner was recored in 1 piece.

they broke the dashboad, I guest taking the radio out, the navigation system is gone, the pioneer 6 dvd changer is gone, but so far the headrest tv look untouch... I'll post some pic when I get them in my computer.

Wow, I am glad this had sort of a happy ending. It could have been a lot worse. Did they catch the jerk who did this and were you able to drive it home? Also, any idea on how they stole it after looking it over? Once again, I am happy you have your truck back!
 
Wow dude, I bet you're relieved!!!!! How does the odometer look compared to when you last saw it? I'd have it checked out mechanically just to be safe.

Yeah let us know how they stole it if you can.

Ihate jerks more than I hate anything else in the world. In my first car I had my stereo jacked. It was recovered because the jackoff thought he was stealing from someone he wanted revenge on. He re-installed it and gave me some money too..

Then about a year ago someone jacked my backpack from my minivan - never got that recovered - pissed me off - had to buy all new school books.. what jerks..

I am glad you got your truck back - how much will it take to get everything replaced and repaired and will Insurance cover any and how much of it?
