Unless there has been a recent change, the big brakes are on the Sport, not the Limited.magnumfan said:

The question still is can 16'' rims be put on a T4R Limited?

In the winter I run Blizzak DM-Z3s. Since I have an SR5 with the smaller brakes I can use 245/75/16 on my steel Tundra wheels.
Blizzaks are a DIRECTIONAL Tire. On each tire the manufacturer prints the word "ROTATION with an arrow.
On each tire the Arrow should point to the FRONT of the vehicle.
From jon9's description I would be willing to bet that one or more tires are not mounted correctly or the tire store did not sell him
enough of the correct direction tires for each side of the 4Runner.
I have used Blizzaks on my 4Runner for a few years now and they work VERY well for me.
I also used them on my vehicles prior to the 4Runner with the same results.

FYI, according to the 2008 4Runner Specs tire sizes breakdown as follows:
SR5: Standard = P265/70R16 / Available = P265/65R17
Sport: Standard = P265/65R17 / Available = NA
Limited: Standard = P265/60R18 / Available = NA
One has to wonder if the "Standard" sizes listed is the smallest size wheels that will fit the respective models due to brake sizes used.

Rim/tire size and brakes on T4R
Hey Charlie180, that was what JHarris about 8 posts above was talking about. In the link he posted was the disc size of the various T4R Gen4 models, It appears the Limited and the SR5 both have the same size and the Sport has the larger discs. I accidentally started this discussion because previously I was told by another member (name escapes me) that the Limited and Sport shared the same discs and the SR5 was smaller. I now beleive that not to be true.

Interesting how the brake disc sizes and wheel sizes for the 4Runner are confusing.
When I purchased my Blizzaks the tire store's info indicated that 16 inch wheels would not fit on ANY 4th gen 4Runner model.
The owner of the company even showed me their industry standard tire book. Needless to say after my 16" steel wheels were
mounted, he made a note in the book about the SR5 with stock brakes being able to use that size.

JB how can you tell?
I just checked my window sticker and manual and can see no reference to Disc sizes
The reason I am interested is I might swap my 18'' rims for a set of 17'' at the next tire change so I can go back to my favorite compromise tire, the BFG A/Ts. Im running Revo's now, they cost me $150 each and the BFG A/T in an 18'' was about $250 each, but drops to like $160 in a 17''

I didn't have a caliper.
I measured the rotor by removing the wheel and setting a tape measure on the floor pointing up. Then I took a level, placed it at the top of rotor, got the bubble on center and "leveled" and used that to set "zero" at the top of the tape measure. Without moving the tape measure, I placed level at the bottom of the rotor, got the bubble center and "leveled". My rotors measured over 13".
Now that I think of it, an easier way would be measure the diameter inside the rim. Then measure the spacing between the rotor and rim, multiply that by two and subtract it from the inside rim diameter.

VSC is not a system that should need to be checked by the dealer. It runs a self diagnostic at startup. If there is a problem, a light in the instrument cluster would come on. I'm afraid the dealer will find nothing wrong and you'll be out a hundred bucks.
Before you sign the work order, perhaps a service writer can go ride with you and have you duplicate what you are experiencing. From there, they can make a recommendation before you authorize any work.
I just cannot believe a set of Blizzaks on a 4Runner would perform poorly in the snow. Are you spinning out, losing conrol or just occasionally slipping around?
