My 4gunner is a damn tesla coil

I have ridden in vehicles before that would give you a little static shock when closing the door, especially in our super dry AZ climate... But my 02 4runner hits me so hard that I cringe when closing any car door these days waiting for the hit. I am not talking a little snap or shock, I am talking a freaking bright arc that a passenger can clearly hear and see on the other side of the car - enough to make you yell a few 4letter words every time !

Just curious if I am the only one. Going to try anti-static dryer sheets rubbed on the seats, covers and steering wheel cover as well as spray some anti-static stuff... see if that helps.

I didn't have any issues until I got new Wetokle seat covers. Ever since, I have been shocking and swearing each time I get out of my truck. The "leather" seats themselves never did this to me.

I used to get it all the time, So often that everytime I would get out of the car I would use the back of my hand to bump the door since you have way less nerves on that side and it didnt hurt that much.

Im not sure what changed or maybe its just I left California but I dont seem to get it anymore.

Ive got no good solution but your not alone in that category lol

Agreed, I never had this with my 98 limited and leather, but my leather equipped subaru outback gets me a tiny bit.

Good point on the seat covers. I was getting a good nip with the cloth seats, but when I installed seat covers... that is when Thor took up residence in the gunner

It's real folks! Happens to me all the friggin time to me in Washington. Hell, it happens to me in the house. When I wash my hands or the dishes, I get shocked from contacting the water.

Never in the 4runner but my mother's Camry would make Edison jealous with the amount of static electricity it had.

If you have to go in for a pace maker, get another car.

Maybe call Musk and see if he has a way to discharge and collect it.

Switch to a chainmail seat cover, and run a grounding wire to a metal braid that drags on the road as you drive.
But keeping your hand on the door is easier.

AZ....you are talking about a state that has grounding wires for its shopping carts.

I always ground myself out before I pump gasoline, I think I have a permanent burn mark on my left index finger from it.

Haven't had this happen with the 4Runner yet but my f150 hates me.

I think my seat is too worn to shock me, but my sister constantly tells me she get a shock when getting outta the passenger seat

When I got a new amplifier this happened to me a lot. When I connected the body of the 4runner to its frame with a 4 gauge wire I had no more problems.

I believe the shocks are caused by poor grounding.
