But serious, that's terrible. I'll be in the lookout just in case they decide to bring your ride to AZ.
The apartments don't have any cameras around? Maybe nearby businesses? Hell if there are houses, you might get lucky and they can have cameras set up.

This is really bad news for classic 4Runner lovers. I hope you get it back, hopefully in an undamaged condition. Keep us posted, please.

That really sucks! Mine was stolen from the previous owner, so I’m hoping that was it’s one time deal there. I’m religulous about using a club and disco-ing one of the ignition wires if I leave it anywhere other than in my gated drive.

Hope you get that beauty back!

Stole my 89'

Sorry to hear that. Had my 89' stolen in 90' . Police found it 3 months later, thrashed.

Any suggestions on better security for these. That key is worthless for preventing theft.

This sux. I hate to hear and see such a thing of beauty stolen by some ass-wipe. I really hope you get this truck back and in its condition as you had it. Certainly will have eyes open.

No front license plate? I would not be surprised if it was repainted and the wheels were switched.

I'll keep my eyes open in the SF/Bay Area.

what's the plate number?
sucks your 4runner got stolen but a better way to ID besides it's blue would help

cross post it also on yotatech's stolen folder:

ways to keep it safe:
not a club- those take about 4 seconds to defeat
i have a grant removeable steering wheel in my 4runner:

another thing I did in my 81 since it was a manual was a transfer case lock
saved my truck on more than one occasion
Dropzone's 1981 Trekker Build-Up Thread - Page 60 - YotaTech Forums

other things I have done is wire a switch in line with the EFI fuse,
switches in line with the ignition that have to be put in the correct sequence to all the truck to start

Good news everyone!! I got the truck back! LAPD found it a week later. Just got new tires back on it so it's back in action. Any tips on not getting it stolen in the future? Tow guy told me to wire a kill switch to the fuel pump and hide it somewhere. Also anyone had luck with wheel locks?

So they stole it for the wheels and tires? Sheesh! Glad you got it back.

Ha, yea. Guess I need to invest in some wheel locks. Anyone have any luck with certain brands? I know Gorilla makes a set for $70 or so that makes every lug nut a locking one. Not impossible to get off, but sure as hell would take a long time.

If they want the truck they are going to take it, but we can make the process complicated.

Wheel locks
Steering wheel lock
Pedal lock
Dropzone's transfer lock
A couple of kill switches
GPS tracker
A big pitbull in the backseat
A decapitation device

Great news, glad to hear it.

My '88 was stolen from my driveway back in 2010. Got her back a week later, not stripped too bad. $600 got her back up to snuff.
I now have a kill switch hidden under the dash. It's wired between the coil and the distributor. I also made room in my garage when I got her back, so she NEVER sits out all night anymore.
