Well, this is odd. The F9 connector lacks the tiny 5-digit number that (up until now I thought) every Toyota connector has on it. I checked mine this past weekend. So no joy on the terminals hwell:

Put the terminals into the existing F9. I went to a junkyard and grabbed a bunch of plugs, some of the terminals must work. May find out this weekend.

Haven't seen a successful SR5 yet.

I have a SR5, and it does work as long as you add the extra wires.

Dumb question, but does the 2020 TRD Pro already have this automatic dimming feature?

I haven’t been in a situation yet where it is dark enough in the middle of the day to have the need to automatically have the display dim

Does anyone know where those 3 wires lead to the radio harness?

I replaced my headunit with the T9 and lost the function of the auto dimming feature. I’m assuming the T9 harness is not plugging to those ambient sensor wires. A simple tapping to the right wires should give me the dimming ability back.

Thanks to all the information that clintg posted, I got the light sensor working on my SR5 today.

My truck already had the light sensor harness, but the 3 wires (red, pink, blue) didn't go all the way to the F9 connector of the BCM. I don't know where they stopped...didn't pull the dash harness apart to find out. Instead I tapped the 3 light sensor wires with PosiTaps and ran 3 new wires to the F9 connector. While that sounds easy, to get to the light sensor harness, the radio and front vent ducts (not for the faint at heart) have to come out.

I ordered the "T" harness that clintg suggested, and harvested 3 unnecessary wires from it as pigtails (with female ends). I soldered those 3 pigtails to my 3 new wires, and inserted them into F9.

I'll have a usable "T" harness left over after I clean up the extra wires, if anyone wants to do this.

This is a rabbit hole...probably 5 hours total.

For anyone with an SR5 that's missing the 3 wires at F9, I have for sale a "T" harness with the 3 wires that are needed. In the pictures you can see that I've left the 3 wires unwrapped. These 3 wires are F9 positions 20-22, and go to the pink, red, and blue wires (respectively) at the light sensor. You can tap them with vampire taps or PosiTaps, or cut them and solder in your own wires directly.

This was harvested from an iDatalink ADS-THR-TL7, which clintg found has the proper connectors (documented in this post). It has all the wires that an SR5 needs. It's as close to plug-and-play as you can get.

IIRC, you have to change something in the settings on the headunit. Should be info in this thread.
