My $5 mod in 5 mins.

I ordered the sensor on ebay from the Kentucky seller and received it today, 4 days not bad.

The bad news: it does not work in my 2017 SR5P which has the wires to the dummy plug. So I'm not sure if I received a bad sensor or what the problem is. Probably not worth spending much more time on.

Its probably not wired on the other end, which i believe was talked about earlier in this thread.

I still haven't installed mine, and i doubt i will. Ill find someone at a local meet to give it to someone with a TRD off road.

I forgot the tape trick too! Now it won’t sit flush and I can’t remove it! Argh!
Anyone else can’t get it flush and clicked in place? Mine is loose!

Got the last sensor from Kentucky for my 2019 TORP.
Thanks all for the tips but in the end, the credit card trick didn't work so went with the protective tape and small flathead, knowing a bit more access on the backside by the glass where the credit card is supposed to go. Popped up and out fine.
Everything's the same except no Day Mode tick box on my Entune version. That being said, both the dash and radio display dim appropriately and simultaneously.

Mine snapped into place and sits flush. It sticks up a bit further than the stock plug but it's snapped into place

I had to rotate it. There was a sweet spot that it dropped in perfectly.

I did rotate it and could not find s “sweet” spot. Think I’ll try again!
Thanks!

If you take a picture of the hole you can see it has a specific sizing so the plug should fit one specific way. Then it was easy to snap into place. Before that I struggled haha

Interesting, I’ll try that approach. Thanks.

2015 trail premium.
Initially, I didn’t think it worked. Tested it today and it does. Success! One the cheap, thanks for the tip OP.

How comes? could you elaborate ? Thanks!

I put it in at night. My garage is pretty well lit, I had the parking lamps on only and the radio stayed the same brightness whether I covered the sensor with a rag or not. I chalked it up to not having complete wiring to the ECU or whatever and considered it a 10 dollar plastic upgrade.

Then a few days later, outside during the day (sunny), I decided to throw the parking lights on, the radio stayed bright. I threw the rag over the sensor and three seconds later the radio ( and instrument display) dimmed. Took the rag off the radio brightened up. Put the rag on the radio dimmed.

Thanks! I'll try it one more time.

Can't believe this mod even exists, I will do it too but I am disappointed that it is so cheap and Toyota wouldn't do it for us.
