My 95

I purchased a 95 about 2 months ago, and it had a ton of work needing to be done. Needed brakes, spare was missing, and further inspections showed assm. was cut and spare stolen, rusty bumpers and quarter panels. Drivers side door didn't lock. My friends family owns 4 4runners, 2 3rd gens, 2 2nd, one looking just like mine (a 94). I havn't done much with cars other than the occasional LED Lights, Radio Installs, changing batteries fixing regulators, brakes, etc. I have plenty of electrical experience from owning a LED lighting company with my aforementioned friend. I'm 21, and currently in college for mechanical engineering. I have a 2008 civic as well.

Anyway within the first week I changed the brakes and calipers (both sides were frozen) and put in a touch screen dvd player nav radio, new front speakers, window deflectors from junk yard, then installed backup cam for it a couple weeks later.

Also modded the shifter about 2" shorter so the radio could open and close in park.

And the fun begins!

Two spark plug wires were rotted through, so I changed the plugs and the wires, but am getting codes 25 and 26 (fuel ratio too low and too rich) so am thinking that the O2 sensor is bad.
Anyways I had picked up some bumpers from my local junkyard and started removing some rust.
This was the first time I really tried to do any major rust work. Picked up a corded angle grinder from Harbor freight for really bad sections, and used air tools for the rest.
Of course after I made holes in the panels it rained for three days straight. Today I was able to get some work done and am happy with the result.

I tried changing the door lock actuator with one I got from my local junkyard today, to find out it didn't work, leading me to think that since it was only the drivers side not working, the wiring was bad. the sensor for lock unlock worked fine. I removed the wiring harness after much work, and found two broken wires. I didn't realized that the door wouldn't be able to close :ybrick: so I had to screw in the door latch for tonight. The only way to open the door is to crawl in from the passengers side and manually activate the latch. Hopefully tomorrow everything will get put back together

The interior still looks good, but Dang that's a lot of rust! They must use a lot of salt in the winter, in your area.

Glad to see someone has the faith to save that truck. And not just let it rust out. Welcome to the forum and keep us posted!

Thanks guys!
So I got the wiring harness re-installed today, Drivers side power lock now works! Still more rust work for tomorrow, hopefully get the bumpers on. not looking for a perfect repair, just getting the bulk of it done before snow hits. Here in ohio we do get lots of road salt :/
