My 96-98 Cupholder Solution

Many of you have followed my School Engineering Project thread in which I have been designing a cupholder mainly for us 96-98 guys without the center console cup holders. Of course this can also fit newer 3rd gen models if someone decided they wanted more cupholders. After multiple designs, I finally settled on one that I thought was best for my needs. I then went through the process of 3d printing the cup holder along with painting and preparing it for installation.

I am very please with how it turned out and am looking into a limited production run if there is enough interest in the product. And with that begin said, here is my solution to my horrible 1997 cup holders.

Some questions I know you'll ask:

-Does it affect leg room/ seat movement?
Yes it does, and there is no way around it. But as you can see, you can easily clear it and have plenty of room around you. My seat is not all the way forward, but is positioned at were most my friends like it. It still has 3-5 more inches of movement available.

-What can it hold?
I'm still testing cups out, but here are a few things. Will add more as I go.

-How is it attached?
The bracket is attached to the center console with two bolts, along with a washer.

The cupholder is then attached to the bracket with three bolts, which can easily be removed when you want to take the cupholder out. This makes it so only the bracket remains and the passenger has full leg room again.

-How much are they?
I currently have no clue what a price would be as this version was 3D printed. I'm going to look into some companies that specialize in creating products from molds or cad drawings. 3D printed, this product would be way north of $100.

I know you are already sort of done with design... but I had a thought. I've noticed on some newer vehicles that the cupholders are different sizes. So let's say there's one about 3" in diameter that will fit a water bottle or soda can just fine and then there's one 3 1/2" that'll fit larger beverage containers and mugs. Would that ever be a possibility?

Another idea that my wife's Altima has is an insert you can put it to make the cup holder smaller and can be removed for larger drinks.

But like I said, you might be way past the point where you could change the design and this not even a possibility.

First off how did you get a sasquash in your truck, and it looks like you have put together something many of us can use, to me it looks like it could be just a little deeper, but that may just be me. Nice work man.

I could actually easily fab up a insert that allowed you to make the cup holder smaller. It could be an additional piece that people could decide if they wanted or not. I'm sure it would all come down to price for most people.

Judging by the photos, it looks like a water bottle would rattle around a bit and maybe even threaten to fall over if driven over uneven terrain. I think an insert would be ideal. It could even be made of foam or something so you've got a room to squeeze it in if not a perfect fit.

Like you said, production-wise that would be fairly cheap on your end but give value to the end product. And if they don't need it they'll just toss it but at least it's available.

Its my winter Florida coat lol. Thanks. When there is liquid in the cups, there is no problem with the deepness.
