My '99 4Runner

I wish I could make a build thread like the awesome ones on this forum, but I do not seem to have the money nor car modification experience. I love reading through the build threads on here though. Any ideas for cheap easy mods to get me started??

Anyway, here are a couple pictures from Skyline Drive this weekend. You have to make a trip if you are from the East Coast.

What are you planning on doing with the truck? If your trying to start slowly maybe you could do the deck plate?

Please don't do the deckplate, not worth it at all.
Don't worry about modding your Runner, it looks great and is more capable than %95 of the other vehicles on the road. If you get some money down the road and feel the need to do some work on it thats cool - but for now it will take you anywhere you want to go.

Virginia is a great state, I plan on doing some road trips there during the summer.

Finally took the running boards off. I like the look a lot better. I want a lift to top it off, but I'm heading to Europe for the Spring and I think I'll wait until I get back.

You've got a '99 Highlander! Many people mod theirs just to get to where you are stock!

You also have a great set of stock wheels. You could do what many people here do and paint them. A new color really adds a different look to your ride.

Really?? I'm curious how so. I have been thinking about painting them black for a while. From what I read it's pretty cheap too. Might do that next week while I'm on break.

Do a search. People on here paint the stock wheels all the time. Just take your time and prep them right. A little elbow grease goes a LONG way in this case.

Toyota 4Runner Highlander Information
Tallest springs of the 3rd gen years, hood scoop, 5 star wheels, some had a rear locker (cheap mod available for that if you've got one).....
My husband wheeling his stock Highlander ('cept for 32" tires) at Washi-ta...

I'd have to say better skids would be what he'd choose for his next mod, then maybe sliders.
Heck, 4Runners do some pretty cool stuff stock, even when my 96 was a saggy butt stocker it went on a lot of trails. That's how I learned what I did and do want to do to it as I gather funds, wheeling it stock.

You have a great foundation to mod when you choose to do so. Enjoy your great find which many by the way, many would love to have as their own. What you have stock, I paid close to $1000 to add. So actually, you're ahead by $1000. LOL. Really, you did well and the color is one of my favorties. Congrats........

Awesome! Thank you! Just a little more info in case people were curious.. I got it from a used car dealer. It's a 99 and I bought it on December 26, 2010. It had 87000 miles on it at the time. I paid $9100. Everything seems to be in great condition and I hope I can take as good of care of it as the previous owner did. I do wish I could get better than 150 miles to my tank though!

Are you from the Future??? It's that 2012 thing isn't it? :D :jk:

Seriously though you have an AWESOME Canvas as other strive to get to your OEM package. Yes some look for years trying to find one that year, package and best of all, that COLOR.
Congrats on the purchase!!!

PS; Be sure to read the STICKIES to help you out on your quest to modifying as well as just normal service How-To's..

Haha, whoops, 2010. Fixed. This is making me even happier about my purchase. Awesome community.

150 miles a tank? Definitely sounds like you could benefit from some general maintenance .

Gas mileage has been terrible since I bought it. I'm embarrassed to say, but I have kind of neglected it. I've pretty much just gotten some oil changes, changed the air filter, and tried a few fuel injectors. I plan on getting it looked at next week while I'm home on break.

Sorry to disappoint about the license plate, but no, it's just slang for let's say.. 'on top of things,' or to be perfect, haha.

Haha I thought it could go either way. Good luck with the mileage.

Check your plugs and wires too.
