My Audio Set-up ( NEED HELP )

Hey, so I was looking for a good touch screen Stereo that has the following:

-Good Display
-Good touch response (like a smart phone, iphone)
-Good sound quality
-Many functions
-Supports rear camera
-Possibly play movies ( or movies through bluetooth)
-usb/aux ports
-Can work with 4 speakers and 1 or 2 subwoofers

MY AUDIO PLAN:

Touchscreen Stereo
Front door Speakers with tweeters
Rear door Speakers
1 or 2 10" subwoofers
1 or 2 Amplifiers ( i would prefer 1 if possible)
New speaker wire
Sound deaden most of the 4runner ( cheapest way possible )


My Questions:

1. Is this a good Stereo (Pioneer)

Pioneer SPH-DA120 AppRadio 4 Smartphone receiver at Crutchfield.com

2. Does it work for all the things i wanted in my Audio system above?

3. Is there any other Stereo's similar to this one in the way it display's stuff? I like this Stereo because it almost imitates an ipad mini screen.

4. Is it possible to use 1 new Amplifier to power the Stereo, 4 speakers, 1 or 2 subs?

5. Would it be a BETTER sound quality if I bought 2 AMPS? 1 for the speakers, 1 for the subwoofers?

6. If I am looking at purchasing a Stereo around this price range (500$), What Functions or Features should i absolutely have? Or extra things that would be nice? ( Im not looking for stuff that requires monthly subscriptions )

7. What price am i looking at, to sound deaden the majority of my 4runner?

8. What is the Cheapest Sound deadener out there? I've searched for hours and it all seems pretty complicated haha.

A lot of your questions are personal preferences that we can't answer and seeing these units in person will probably help out best in your case. Not trying to be a prick, but it just seems like you haven't even tried to do any research prior to posting and there are a TON of audio threads on this site, not to mention every other car site.

I'm not asking anyone to Research for me. I'm posting a thread, because if they're are Audio-tech's or people really familiar with this subject, they could most-likely answer my questions very easily. I really have spent alot of time researching, but i still have a ton of questions un-answered. Thanks for understanding

Not sure, I didn't read the specs. If you want it to hook up to your iPhone, make sure it has bluetooth and/or an iPhone hookup. If you want to connect to an amplifier then make sure it has preouts.

I very much like Alpine so you could look at what they have to offer.

Yes, it's called a 5 channel amplifier. The first 4 channels are your individual door speakers and the 5th is a momo channel for your sub.

5. Would it be a BETTER sound quality if I bought 2 AMPS? 1 for the speakers, 1 for the subwoofers?

The easy answer is yes, but it depends on the amp. 1 nice 5 channel will sound better than 2 crappy amps.

Am/fm tuner, aux input, whatever you want it to have

Yep, copper makes for a great speaker wire. Getting fancy would be oxygen free, shielded, etc. personally I'd just find copper speaker wire made in the USA. Costs more but I try to support domestic production. And yes, you should run new speaker wire, especially if amplifying your speakers.

10. When buying an Amp, should a Basic Wire kit give a good Sound output? Or would you guys recommend paying a bit extra for good cords?

You get what you pay for to a certain degree. Yes there's RCA cables that cost $100/ft for those crazy audiophile guys so I wouldn't go that crazy, but don't expect $4 RCA cables from radio shack to sound good. If you're asking about power wires then brand doesn't have anything to do with sound quality. Wire gauge and how/where you run the cables and where you ground to makes the difference. As long as it's the propper gauge fine stranded copper then it doesn't matter.

yes i like the app radios.

i am/was thinking about picking up the app radio 3. i personally like the sleek 7" screen with limited buttons on the bottom and bottom only. the 4 has them on the side so i have not look into it that much nor seen reviews because i have not been interested in it. but i hear they are decent radios and yes it will do everything you want it to do.

no. for component speakers (highs- tweeters mids-larger round door speakers) require another amp and cross overs to split the sound between the two high and mids. and the subs take another amp to power them.
I currently have subs and 1 amp but upgraded door speakers that are coaxle where the tweeters and mid are together.

if you want to run components you want an amp for them and an amp for the subs. like i said coaxle do not need amps

pretty much any radio around that price range will be everything your looking for. some have fancy bluetooth features to stream your music from your phone to the car thats pretty cool but other than that they will all have aux, usb, back up, dvd, radio, cd, and a touch screen

mine is basic roofing material i got on ebay for a killer deal and i go into more detail about it on there. mine got rid of rattles and road noise that made the interior really quiet.

sound deadener comes if a few different styles there are the stick on mat like dynomat kinda stuff that i have then closed foam dense and less dense. you can go cheep on all that stuff what ever you find laying around and just stick it in places and it will help a ton. Shoots Build Thread.

i dont know about speaker wire for the doors. its just easier not to run new wire but if you run components you will need wire from the head unit to the amp, then to the cross overs in the doors then to the speakers. so if you go that route you will want to run new wire. i have not so i have not done much research on wire.

basic kits are great as long as they can support the power you are using to power the subs. for me ive got some massive kicker l7 comps 12" and a mono block 1600W hifphonics amp and i think im using like 00 Ga wire. its about as thick as a nickle. but just be sure you get the correct wire for you amp and subs. brand does not matter. but sometimes type of wire matters to get a better conductivity. look into it. but if you find them on ebay or amazon for a good price your most likely golden.

Glad he could help. You do seem very nice and trust us - this is like the nicest truck forum on all of the internet. Really - I'm not kidding. The rest are real rough.

Some of the links I provided you in the earlier thread such as to Crutchfields Self Installers Guide. That isn't just me deflecting - that really is a great tool and I would use it for myself to answer any questions.

I also suggest calling Crutchfield because they are there to answer anything and are super pros and they charge nothing for questions about possible future purchases.

---> Co-axel vs Component does not matter for "needs and amp" or doesn't. What matters is the RMS Wattage Rating of the Speakers. If it is < 40W RMS then you can probably run it (the speaker or component speaker which is still just seen as 1 speaker) without an amp. But even then they will always run better and sound better with an amp.

---> The answer is yes, you can buy a 5-channel amplifier. There are many for sale and Alpine makes great 5 channel amplifiers. This would allow say 45x4 RMS for the doors and 250x1 RMS for the single sub. Those are example numbers.

If you already have an amplifier then that complicates things. Door speakers should be run with a 4 channel amplifier not a subwoofer (2 channel) amplifier. You can use a 5 channel amplifier to accomplish both but I would not run the doors off a 2 channel if you can afford to buy a proper 4 channel amp.

So if you have an amp you can either run 2 amps like I do or ditch one and buy a 5 channel amp. Simple & done.


My suggestions
* Buy Infinity Reference Component Speakers 6.5" for Front and 5.25"non-components for Rear.
* Buy Alpine Universal Power Pack, 4x45 W RMS min-amp that connects to any head unit. Just check the reviews - everyone loves them. This would be great with the reference series.
* Buy 2x Dynamat door kits and do the front doors only. Great way to start out and far more important than doing the rest of the truck.
* Use your existing amp (if you have one) to power a small 10" or 12" single sub.
* Read and reference the "Crutchfield Labs Installation Guides" website

I don't think you're completely grasping the point any of us are trying to make. You've been a member here since 10/15, and you've already accumulated 16 threads that you've started. If I were to go back and look through each one of those thread I guarantee at least 75% of them would all have some of the same comments. One of the main comments would be learning to search. If you'd spend as much time searching as you do typing your essays you'd find some of the answers to your questions.

It's not that people on here don't want to help. It's that a lot of the questions you're asking are personal opinions rather than factual information. There have been a couple posts were people say they like Pioneer, and that's fine. For me, I hate Pioneer and never buy another product of theirs.

I wold be hesitant buying a touch screen living in a cold climate. You need to look at the functionality of it rather than the ascetics of it. Sure it looks good, but are you actually going to use it for it's intended purpose? Are you going to go through the work of bypassing it so you can use all the time rather than when your car is in park? I love Alpine head unit, and would get nothing besides an Alpine. However, my wife is cheap and like Kenwood (she also controls the money).

2. Does it work for all the things i wanted in my Audio system above?

That head unit will control up to 6 channels. It's a volt pre-out which is a little shocking. I would think for that kind of money you'd have 6 volts. Either way 4 volts will clean everything up. It'll work.

It's possible, but should you is the next question. You can get either a 4 channel amp for your speakers, and another amp for your subs. Or, get a 5 channel amp for all of them.

Sound quality isn't based on how many amps you have. It's based on how you have everything set-up. A lot depends on the frequency response, signal to noise ratio, and so on. All things that you should learn about and pay attention to. So people like a little more punch, and a lower db would suit them. So people like a cleaner all around sound, and a higher db would suit them.

What do you want cheap? Cheap isn't going to get you anywhere besides spending more money. I use a product called GTMAT, and I've really liked to turn out. It's on the cheaper side, and you can do all 4 doors for around $150. Price is going to change based the brand, square footage, and the mil rating.

I've been using long strain cooper wire for years. I can't tell you how much it is than others, but I'm not going to change anytime soon. I use AudioQuest for the wire as well.

Spend the money. The way it sounds to me. You've going to drop about $2k on your stereo so why would you cheap out on the cheapest items?

Not sure where you're getting all this money from. With all your threads it seems like you're going to be spending around $10k on the stereo, lift, wheels, tires, and other mods. You should send some of that to the people on here that are helping you build it. Just saying.

I prefer head units that are touch screen but that have a knob for the volume. My jvc unit is a great example. I hate those silly volume buttons when I'm bumping along the road trying to adjust something.

Food for thought.

I won't even try to answer any of the other questions because I don't know anything about amps or anything. I always just ask my stereo guy and pay him through the nose.
