My baby was in a minor accident - need advice

Hey all,

I was simply stopped waiting to turn into Wendy's when someone hit me from behind. The damage is so minor that I almost did not see it at first and almost drove away with out taking any information. However, I took a minute to run my hand over the bumper and could feel the indentation; if you bend down bumper level you can see it. It is SO SO SO minor, but it is there. I feel bad reporting this to the offenders insurance company because of how minor it is. The may laugh me out of the body shop when they repair it. It may only be a pop out who knows, I know nothing about that. Should I leave it be or should I report? I hate to be petty. I will be driving my 4runner for at least another year if not more, I wonder if this small dent will affect trade in value.

MY DAD WAS REAR ENDED (sorry for caps) about 9 years ago and its a pretty big dent in the rear chrome bumper, he just got 200 bucks up front and called it even.

just contact the person and let them know how much it would be to fix it and have them give u some cash, so you dont have to go through and insurance comp-anis... well hope its not too bad,


and if u can bairly see it, or not notice it on a buyer, then i bet your value is just fine!

I agree with shootmymime, if you dont really care about it, keep it out of the insurance game and just ask the other guy for maybe 1/2 of his deductible in cash. Thats good for him (although he is out of pocket, but it was his fault), you get some cash to do whatever with, and there's no stuffing around with insurance.
Someone once backed into the front of my Nissan and broke my driving lights. I said $250 and I'm happy, they gave me the cash right there and then, and that was it.

IMO you definitely need to get something out of it. Even if it was minor, if it bothers you that much get a new bumper. If not, then just get some money out of the person that hit you. Depending on how big the dent is, I wouldn't think it would hurt your trade in value.
