my Bilstein 5100 and LC 7.5 wrap experience

Picked up my 01 2wd Sport last year and have finally got around to putting it up in the air a little bit. I dont do any harcore wheelin in it so 2wd is good for me.

Bought a set of Bilstein 5100's from Top Gun Customz off ebay, and my buddy whose folks live down the road from their shop picked them up for me over Christmas when he went back to visit. (saved me like $30 over everybody elses prices!)

Snagged some used LC 7.5/7.75 wrap coils (orange orange white) since I just wanted around 3" of lift and went with the Tokico Trekmaster LC shocks for the rear.

I set the 5100's on the top notch...and its looking like it netted me about 2" of lift in the front. I thought they would get a little more than that? (could be that 2wd springs are shorter? or they were sagging to begin with?)

The LC coils ended up more like 5". Hoping they will settle at least an inch or or so after driving a bit because I'm not a fan of the 3.75" rake between the front and the back. Ideally the back will come down an inch and I could add one more inch in the front with a spacer/different coils. Any opinions on adding the spacer/coils?

I also yanked of the running boards to visually give me a little lift as well.

The rake looks awesome imo .. I love mine. If you have the fronts cranked up already, it's going to be a bumpy ride with spacers in addition ...

So you put the bilsteins on with your stock spring? And set it at the heighest setting? It has to ride terrible, no? Why not put tundra springs up front?

That's correct. Top notch w/ factory springs. Ride isnt that bad in my opinion. My wife gave it the make-up test yesterday and even said it wasnt bad at all. My previous truck was a 01 dodge 2500 diesel so maybe its all relative?

'01-'02 were the shortest springs of all the 3rd gens (no idea how 2wd vs. 4x4 fits into that though, I THINK they use the same springs regardless). I'd say find some '96-'98 or the even taller '99 front springs and that should bring your front up an inch or so. If you're happy with the ride/handling, then this will fix the height issue.

Thanks IanB! Didnt know that at all. I'll look around and see what I can find....obviously a set of Eibachs as Hungyeddy suggested would be ideal, I'm just trying to do this on a budget as much as possible for now.

The '01-02 springs were the shortest of all the years, and, at least according to the Sonoran Steel website, 2wd springs were always 1" lower than 4wd. I have an '02 2wd and when I put the 99 4wd springs in, I got about 2.5" of lift. You should find that a set of front springs from a 99 4wd model will lift your front end about 2.5". I can't remember the color code, but it's in the lift sticky.

I just want to add that the '99 springs sell at a premium as there is lots of demand for them, you can likley find the '96-'98 front springs much cheaper. The reason I bring this up in there will likely be costs associated with having the new springs mounted on the struts, and an alignment after, even if you do the rest of the labour yourself. A bit of forward rake isn't a bad thing, but what you've got currently is too much IMO.

I will have a set of 99 Tall springs for sale in a few weeks. Just waiting on the last of my parts from Toytec and I will but dropping in my TRD struts and LC 7 wraps.

Cool, thanks for the info! So if I read this correctly, the springs alone from a 99 would give me around 2.5" of lift vs. my short 2wd springs? I could drop my 5100's down a couple of notches and still get around 3" or so?

No. '99 4wd springs are about 2.5" taller than '02 2wd springs, so all other things being equal (i.e. no change to the shocks), you should get about 2.5" of lift with the '99 springs. If you drop the 5100s down a couple of notches, that would reduce the lift you get from new springs.

took the 4runner on a 4 hour trip to see my family this weekend. very pleased with the ride quality.

getting a slight noise/roar/vibe briefly when i let off the accelerator however. should i be concerned? driveshaft angle doesnt look bad at all.

Let us know how you like them once you put em in ! :)

been a while but i finally got around to installing my toytec springs yesterday. the bilsteins are on the lowest setting and i ended up with about 2" more lift than the stock 2wd springs on the highest shock setting. very pleased with how it turned out and the ride quality.
