My Christmas present...

I've got oil burning somewhere (either from allowing toyota to change my oil and them spilling it everywhere, or my VCG's are done) so I was looking around trying to figure it out and found this...

Trying to figure out what wires these are, they obviously need to be replaced. For reference the blue wires are my plug wires and this is on the passenger side.

Any thoughts on the burning oil as well... only seems like I noticed it after getting the oil changed by the dealership a month ago. There seems to be oil around the valve cover gaskets but mainly on the drivers side around the oil cap.

Maybe they just need to be tightend?

Thanks in advance.

As long as the wires aren't showing any bare metal, unplug the connector and wrap them up with good electrical tape, such as Scotch Super 88. Or buy some wire loom first, then proceed. Then run then under or in front of the fuel rain.

The wires are a part of the jumper for the ECT sensor as well as the CAM sensor(s).

+1 with Elton on hooking up the vacuum line for the fuel pressure regulator.

They are just leaking, Try to work on tighten them.

TIGHTEN LIGHTLY !!! If you crank them down, the covers can/will crack. It does happen.

Looks like you have had some rodents nibbling. (squirrel, rabbit, mouse, rat).
Even if the wire is showing, and it looks like all the wire is there. Just wrap each wire and then re-wrap the harness. Also look into 'liquid electrical tape". Dab a touch on the bare wires, wrap with tape and then dab over the tape. This will make them weather tight.

If there is oil being lost it is barely visible, with the engine hot it sits on the top dot on the stick. I'm gonna get my hands on a torque wrench and make sure they are in spec., its just weird that I didn't notice the smell until after having the dealership change the oil.

As for the wires I'm gonna need to replace them, one of them is almost all the way frayed through. I would like to get a whole new harness but who knows how much that is... probably just end up "patching" the bad one.

The Vacuum line is plugged for the ISR.

Next time I need to read your sig more carefully. Gotcha with the ISR mod.

Make sure to use an in/lb torque wrench to tighten.

Well I found the leak or the most severe part of it on the back of the valve cover.

In this picture I was holding my phone all the way to the firewall along side the drivers side of the engine facing towards the pass. side. Spent all day cleaning up burnt oil from the back of the entire engine on the drivers side. Still gonna try just tightening them down once I get a hold of a torque wrench.

I was kind of curious about the amount of what looks like sealant seeping out of the gasket, just a lazy mechanic or do I need to just go ahead and plan on replacing the gaskets?

Factory FIPG, which IMHO, does not take well to high humidity (lots of luck there in Columbia).

It does look to be leaking from the semi circular plug.

Spend $80 and a day to change both sides out. Or take it to the dealer and be prepared to pay more.
