My dual projector retrofit |oO/====\Oo|

im deciding whether or not to do a quad retrofit if i can find another set of the same size. let me know what you think.

Those are huge! How will you get the factory lens back on?

Here are some experiences I would like to share that I've learned.

#1 Do you want to cut into the factory metal core support?
#2 Do you want to cut into the headlight mounting bracket?
#3 How much do you want to spend!!! haha
#4 Depth and clearing the glass lens.
I tried to avoid all of those when I considered the projectors I chose, although I was not completely against minor trimming of the headlight bracket.

The following show the passenger side of the vehicle.....
#1 As you can see the metal that surrounds the headlight gives no room to go left (toward center of vehicle) but gives ample room to go right if cutting the black headlight bracket isn't a concern.

#2 Here, it becomes obvious why I chose a side bulb projector, I was not sure whether I would clear the factory metal if I had a normal rear bulb mount projector. Both projectors are touching sitting side by side. Going left with the LS460 projector meant cutting the headlight bracket and metal surround.

Going more right with the mini H1 meant cutting just the headlight bracket, but it also gets close to the actual mounting points of the bracket. Also, going right means you're leaving the bowl area and going toward the flat outer parts of the headlight where there is no depth.

#3 I got all 4 projectors for a total of $100

#4 I went as far forward as possible without contacting the factory glass lens in order to clear the black headlight bracket.

It seems apparent now that another MINI H1 and/or the D2S might actually fit side by side in place of the ls460 and still clear the headlight bracket and factory metal, but it would be close.

side note: The TYC headlight housings are made of up-gf20 plastic which is some sort of polyester reinforced fiber glass. Melting the plastic back together won't work. Epoxy or mechanical fastening is the only way to attach to this plastic type. The plastic is brittle, and does not flex. It acts like fiberglass and sands/cuts to a fine dust. The factory Toyota/Koito plastic used in both headlight housing and headlight bracket are far superior.

they have had the mini d2s on amazon for about $50 for at least a year, it would be sick if someone just bought like 5 sets and made a light bar with them haha.

also im starting a new retrofit with these projectors i got. im not sure what they came out of but ive already basically destroyed my headlights so hopefully they work. im deciding whether or not to do a quad retrofit if i can find another set of the same size. let me know what you think.

Sweet jeebus that's a huge projector, you sure that's not a lens off a telescope,or maybe a locomotive LOL Does it use a D2S bulb?

nah its actually from a rear projection tv, im not going to put it in the actual headlight. When paired with a 100w led and reflector it makes an awesome spot light that you can focus down to just a few degrees, or can widen and spread the light out. Im going to weld up some water proof housings to go in my bumper.

Wanted to add some "design" into the headlights. Hand bent some aluminum rods... what do you think??

the shrouds and rods aren't glued/permanently placed yet, everything is just kind of sitting there, so ignore the slight misalignments

Can we see more of your amber LEDs from the picture a few posts above? How did you do that? Make your own LED board?

That aluminum rod makes them look more at home in that round reflector bowl. Maybe some kind of led strip on the top row of the bar would give it kind of a mean eyebrow look. Pretty awesome man, and love the originality!

If I do an led strip im taking out the amber marker, both in is too busy.

Also, i'm not a fan of the led strips and bulbs that show the individual led bulbs. I like the solid light look better. I am probably going to somehow spread the light in the current amber marker so it looks more solid rather than a lot of little lights.

I also have the simple bullet shrouds from trs and was originally going to use all 4 for a cleaner look, but the style of the shroud doesn't work with how close my projectors are sitting next to each other... on top of that, the bullet shrouds although only $10/pair are a pain to work with compared to my current ones. LOTS of plastic and LOTS more cutting

I was going to make a board but found these for $12 prime 2 day shipping. The shape isn't perfect but it's close. They are universal side markers/turn signals for sport bikes. Very cheaply made. The lens came off easily with a fingernail pry. Simple board with a few resistors. They are too bright as a running/parking lamp when looking at directly soi might throw a pwm on them to dim them a little. Or mechanically dim by smoking the lens.

Got them painted last night
high heat bbq paint in black and silver. Duplicolor metalcast smoke over everything.
I haven't fastened it all together yet. Just getting visual before I commit.

Now, if only you could put a price tag on them, I kniw you spent an insane amount of time on them, so put an insane dollar figure. With all the interest I'm sure you'd get a few to bite, myself included.

You're a craftsman when it comes to projectors. It looks real good on pictures, can't imagine it being less appealing in person. More is really more in this case.

I had 2 directions, clean simple or aggressive.

I had to abandon the simple look as it would've necessitated custom shrouds. The simple shroud designs had a cone shape extending from the projector lens, which covered the projector next to it since the space constraints didnt allow for space in between. The design just wouldn't work.

The shrouds I chose had vents designed into them that enabled me to clear the adjacent projector by placing the projector where the vent wouldve been and then cutting the shroud out behind the vent.
