My father, owns a Chrysler 300c and a town and country. The town and country was purchased with 12k on it. Now little over 100k it's basically falling apart. And he wants to purchase a new mini van. Because he likes diving and the mini van suits his needs better then the 300c for trips. He's been looking at Honda Odyssey 2014 and a Chrysler Pacifica 2017. The Honda is the ex-l and the Chrysler is a touring. He has told me that he read a lot of issues with the transmission in the Odyssey. But personally I feel as if the Honda is better quality then the Chrysler. He's looking to spend 25k or under.

Is he open to a Toyota Sienna at all?
My mom had a 2000 Odyssey (totally different generation, I know) and she went through three transmissions. I believe it had around 160k when she got rid of it, and that final transmission showed some signs that it was on the way out. Honda had its fair share of automatic transmission problems, starting in the late 90's. Not sure if they've sorted it out in recent years.
My mom drives a '14 Sienna now, and it's been totally trouble-free. It still has relatively low miles on it (something like 40k) so it might not be the greatest example, but still. The only thing I don't like about it, compared to the Odyssey, is that it feels much wider.

fftopic:Just sold my Odyssey and it made me sad, despite making room for the 4Runner I've always wanted. Odyssey was just a great car. Two trips from Texas to Wyoming, one to the Smokies, many to Big Bend/Fort Davis and to East Texas. The amount of crap you can stuff into that thing is amazing and I'm going to miss that.

We looked at Sienna. And it's nice and all. But the rear view camera screen is like the size of Iwatch. There's no nice radio or anything.
The Honda Odyssey touring is nice. Comes with sensors and navigation and few others. We found a 2014 for 25k with like 20k on it. But it sold a week ago. Sienna with those options is crazy price. It's toyota so it's expected.

He's got a point. Although it doesn't have the convenience of sliding doors and such but if he is just looking for a bigger family hauler just remember...there can only be one Highlander!

I never understood the logic, in some consumers / they never seem to learn:
- they buy a new & cheap Chrysler product, that is under-Engineered (by design)
- rack up 100,000 miles, that were NOT trouble-free / full of warranty work & high depreciation results, in the used market
- and piss & moan, to anyone that will listen / about the horrid experience, in vehicle ownership
- then contemplate purchasing another POS newer model, in the same brand / burn me once, burn me twice, burn me 3x

The old man, needs a Toyota AWD SUV...with a v6 - in a 2012 or older RAV4 or a brand new Highlander / using an expanded budget.

I rode in a Honda Pilot van last week and it was super nice. If he really wants a mini van like experience he should look at used Honda Pilots.

It's about time people stopped calling Highlanders and Pilots "SUVs". They are minivans. But yes, the Pilot is another good option.
Oh btw, the original Odyssey had four normal doors - no sliding doors. What do the Highlander and Pilot have more in common with, a 4Runner or a 1st gen Odyssey? People need to spread the word and stop calling these SUVs.

While i do agree with you somewhat...but "SUV" stands for Sports Utility Vehicle, which has more in common with Pilot/Highlander than your 4runner IMO. Pilot is sportier than 4runner and offers more UTILITY than 4runner. Of course, utility has a different meaning to different people. BUT, SUV does not need 4-LO or off-road solid axle suspension.
For me, minivans are much lower to the ground, usually 2wd, plenty of room for 3 rows AND cargo, and have sliding doors.
You put up 3 rows in a Pilot or Highlander and you have almost zero cargo. I have MDX. I would argue that MDX is pure SUV. It is sporty, has an amazing AWD system that is both capable and sporty, and has lots of utility. BUT, the lack of cargo with 3 rows up is why we also have a Sienna minivan.
And while Pilot platform is similar to Odyssey, Pilot is much higher off the ground, stouter suspension, avail AWD, and have no sliding doors.
For me, 4runner is SUV with off-road credentials. Pilot is SUV.
