My First Love

After reading through Kid-V's build...I stumbled across his fuel filter relocation pic. He's right on the money...nothing special needed, as the lines will come up enough to relocate it to a MUCH more convenient location. I spent 2.5 hours just getting the old one unbolted. I ended up having to drill a hole in the inner fender well to get a socket extention through. As it is now, the bottom inlet bolt can be easily accessed under the fender with a short extention. The top bolt is right there smiling at me...and the mounting bolts can be gotten with a couple of wrenches. This should cut replacement time down to less than 30 minutes.

Thanks!

I'm still having a little choppy throttle...not idling, not when my foot's in it...but under light load. Gonna run some injector cleaner through, as well as some octane boost. We shall see what happens...but feels like a dirty injector to me.

Been out of town most of the last 3 weeks for work. The throttle issue was the TPS. However, he said one point wouldn't adjust properly, and the thing is about worn out. It drove great the first day, and is "de-tuning" itself with more miles...so a new TPS is in order.

I plan on starting light body work over the summer, while the top is off.

Also...I've decided I'm not repairing the interior. I'm going to custom build fiberglass dash, console, and door panels. The only fiberglass I've ever worked with is in RC planes...I crash alot, so I taught myself how to fiberglass-reinforce them. Reading a few tech articles, it doesn't actually look that difficult, and the basics are the same. And if I screw one up...I'll just learn from it and make another. If they turn out good enough, I'll start offering them (as I can, since I travel for work constantly) here on the site.

SO my next question is...do I actually need my instrument cluster? I wonder if I can pass inspection with all aftermarket gauges, and no ODO.

Anyway...progress will be slow...but that's alright with me. Stay tuned.

Well...since it's summer here in TX...and I don't even have any of the parts for an a/c...it's time to go TOPLESS.

Coming home the other day, I noticed the Runner barfing out a decent amount of coolant. This shouldn't be happening, as the 22rte has, as of today, 500 miles on it after being rebuilt correctly at a racing shop.

So I remove the skidplate...and find a hoseclamp on the lower radiator hos had been tapped forward by sooooomething...if I could only figure out what it was...

Got the wrench out, fixed the clamp back into the right spot, and we're tight. Now...how to get my big self back under there to get those bolts back in...perhaps I'll recruit some child labor...

My 5 year old is absolutely smitten with the 4Runner. Any chance he can get his hands on it, or his butt in it...he takes it.

Cheers for now!

And we shall call him Slave Labor #3!!!

I love working on my Runner with my boys! Granted mine are just a bit older. I hope that someday the Minnow will belong to one of them.

LOL...well...he's my oldest, and he has the engineer-brain wiring like his daddy. We spent an hour under the Runner with him asking what everything does, and if he could touch it. And, he loves to ride in the Runner with the top off, and talk to anyone in a convertible, or jeep/bronco/k5, etc. with their tops off...at traffic lights, no doubt.
