My First Love - Now a Build Thread...
Hey...just registered the other day, and figured I would take a seat in the spot I'll likely spend the most time.
My first love was an '85 Runner...had it back in high school. For almost 20 years now, I've wished I still had "Rupert"...my Runner. For many of those years, I have told my wife the only thing that could separate me from this:
Is something like this (not mine...taken from the interwebz):
Yes...I'm a lover of the 2nd-gen Blazers...even though the torsion bar system in them is absolutely useless off-road. I added a 2" BL, a custom made bumper, lights, roof rack, side mirrors, stereo system, wheels, 31" BFG's...and currently have a 5" Trailmaster lift sitting on a pallet under the carport. But Christmas break came with some bad news...the original 4.3L V6 was bleeding bad...after almost 215k miles. So the option was replace with a good, warranty'd reman from Jasper to the tune of $4k...or...this:
A friend of mine (retired USAF Col.) who makes a hobby out of 4Runners rebuilt, and dropped a turbo charged 22R from a later model in, restored the interior, cleaned everything up, and lifted it about 5-6". The only thing he never made it around to was the paint. Well...a fresh motor in a 4Runner, for the buddy price of $3k...vs. nearly $4k to restore the Blazer motor back to "good"...it was a no-brainer. And the kicker is...this was all my wife's idea!
So...I'll be digging around the forum, and kicking a few tires. Hope to see you all around!
PS: I pick her up at the end of this month.
