Haven't towed with it yet, but with a 5,000lb tow rating, I'm sure it will do the job. We did take a highway trip that took us from sea level to 4,000 feet at 75mph and all was good. Discovered a couple of cool features that would also be good when towing, when climbing it stays in a lower gear longer ( avoiding frequent up/down shifts ), and when descending, if you tap the brakes firmly and release, it will down shift to hold your speed and avoid excessive brake usage. Must have a level sensor to report when the truck is going up or down a hill.We had several Toyotas years ago and now we are looking for the perfect tow vehicle for our new little PeeWee Camper. Its a teardrop that weighs about 850 lbs. dry so anything can pull it. We don't need a vehicle with huge towing capacity, but we do want to carry more gear in the tow vehicle.
We haven't made up our mind yet but we are looking for advice and recommendations. How would you rate your 4Runner as a tow vehicle?
Thanks.
